I don't know if Michael's comment is a speculation or he has already been told some clue about S6 by the producers, but sadly I've been expecting things to go down like he just described for a while now.

BTW, I read somewhere yesterday that the filming for "V" should wrap up on January 30, 2010. Now I don't remember where I read that, though.

Lost has always made deaths one of its favorite features, I think it would be anticlimatic if they didn't use that in an even stronger/larger way in their last season. Death makes drama in the writers' mind, and I'm sure they want to go for the maximum effect in S6.
I don't know how many characters will survive, Claire and Hurley for sure, IMO, also Sun and/or Jin, perhaps Kate... I can't make predictions about Sawyer.
As for those who will die, the only one I feel sure about is Sayid. And perhaps Ben, too.

Why are you being so hard on yourself? I remember the first chapter of your story and your writing is nice, and you should come up with more stories to help us survive the long hiatus! You plan to take a pause from the multi-chapter fic or you'll keep updating that one, at least?

Awesome! I'm always looking for fresh reading material, and I think in the S/J fandom there are a lot of one-shots but not enough multi-chaptered fics, so I'm glad you're not dropping yours.

I hope they have some nice behind-the-scenes stuff in the DVDs. DarkUFO had a list of the eps that were getting commentaries, but LaFleur wasn't listed among them. I really hope they do - they called this the "Year of Sawyer" and that was his centric, so you'd think they'd include it. We'll see. It's going to come out in December again, right?

If Liz does go back to Lost, I hope its something meaningful and not just as the smoke monster, or a vision, but I'm not holding my breath. Reading that Ausellio article makes me think my theory will be correct,

I think she will be in more than 2 episodes... because she does have the time and her setting off the bomb was important... at least I think it was so she will be on Lost next season... but I also think we won't see her in more than 4 episodes...

There will be at the beginning because I like when there is the right atmosphere created and you get to feel some anticipation... but no, the fanfic won't be too much about plot in the second part.

Yep, December for the American people, but I think the boxset get released earlier in some foreign countries, so if things goes like last year, we could see some stuff around in September, already. In Italy the S4 DVD came out in October.
Also, I'm hoping for some footage showed at Comic Con for promotional purposes.

I wish I could say something comforting, but I can't because I don't trust the producers and I know how much they like to hype things. :-/
But in general, believe a few character should get to make it alive in the end - I'm mostly based this on the fact that I can't picture Ji-Yeon and Aaron being left on mainland, and lose their parents like that (Jin never got to see his daughter, and Claire only spent 3 months with her child).
