At the end of season four of "The Hills," it seemed like Lauren Conrad and former best friend Heidi Montag were going to finally put the past behind them and move toward rekindling their friendship. When they finally chatted during the season finale, they even shared a few tears.

Now, in the latest promos for the fifth season of "The Hills," which starts Monday, it looks like Heidi and Lauren might be moving even closer to reconciliation. Even if the relationship isn't what it used to be, it looks the hard feelings are fading. The two are seen partying together, without Spencer Pratt. So maybe they can finally close the rift caused by Heidi's divisive boyfriend.

Lauren's other BFF, "City" star Whitney Port, is happy the two girls are willing to work out their problems and move toward a more positive future. "I think it was great," the onetime "Hills" star told MTV News. "I think Lauren kind of feels like they're never really going to be best friends, 'cause she was so betrayed by her."

Of course, no one really knows what's going to happen between the former roommates until the season starts Monday — not even Port herself. But Whitney does think it would be "cool" if they can be friends again. "I think that it's really mature and that they've come to an understanding," she said. "So it's cool they've become friends."

The new season of "The Hills" premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV.

As usual, Whitney is the voice of reason. I also like that she pointed out that the show isn't the hills without Lauren.

Everyone always says the same thing when asked if Lauren/Heidi could ever be BFFs again. STOP ASKING.

Im so sick of that Question.
If they were going to be Friends again they would be Friends by now but there not.

yea its a stupid question. but i think they can still be civil and become sorta friends. too much damage has been done to become bffs like before
