Yeah, but things ended really badly and tptb have not handled things with respect (the lack of acknowledgement or Crowley's death and retconning) make the chances of that happening slim

In part I agree, but at the same time if Mark feels disrespected, and unappreciated by tptb then I understand him not wanting to come back

I found some more info online about Mark's departure from the show, according to a fan:

According to Mark (meet & greet), towards the end, there were some serious issues between him and the show-runners. Basically, they wanted Mark to be a recurring character, “on-call” for them whenever they wanted Crowley in the show. They wanted this without making Mark a series regular, so he refused, especially since that would have limited the time and opportunity available to him to pursue other projects (like his musical endeavors).

They tried to get back at him by ‘dumbing’ down Crowley’s character and taking away/editing out the good scenes that Mark had already filmed. That’s why Crowley’s interaction with Lucifer was so silly and stilted and repetitive. And that’s why Crowley ended up looking really stupid at the end.

Another series of scenes that Mark said were edited out, were the Crowley/Castiel FBI agent scenes. Apparently they had a lot of fun filming those and the interactions turned out to be quite amusing. But they were cut down to as minimal as possible.

Mark also talked about how he knew at the end of season 11 that he was on his way out. He said he went to the show-runners and writers and asked them to give Crowley a 'good ending’, to give Crowley an honorable and decent end. Mark was fairly unhappy with how dumb his character ended up being in S12 and the useless death and resurrection via rat. He was completely fed up and ready to move on. His frustration definitely showed in his Tweets as well, especially when Jim Michaels Tweeted that “you never know” that Crowley might come back. Mark’s vehement “No” and reprimand not to give fans senseless hope and string them along, is very telling.

That is such a sad situation. I didn't realize that things had gotten so bad between them.

I hope they release the scenes Mark is talking about.

Were they on the DVDs? Does anyone know?
