See that's what's bothered me the most with unceremoniously dropping both Harvelles.
They don't need a specific story or arc as an exuse to bring them in. They are utility players that can be used whenever, like Bobby.
And frankly I think Ellen's quote about this being War, generally (see title), is very much the point, especially where the story is now, and it bugs me that TPTB don't feel they can include the Harvelles in this.

Well if Supernatural does continue on past season 5

then maybe there's still hope for their return!

They must've had a plan to bring them back -- Why else would they not have killed them or something worse?

Its so easy to put Ellen and Jo helping with the war.
They don´t need any special reason to be back , they already have one, the rising of Lucifer should bring all the hunters together, so why not put Ellen and Jo in this war, If they are in.
