Aw, have faith in the Krip. I'd be shocked if he wasn't going somewhere with Cas's characterisation. It wouldn't be very Kripke-esque, imo.

i've tried to have faith for a year and a half... i just gave up.. the character is going nowhere for me and i hate that, because I LOVE misha soo much.... but i just really can't get into castiel or anything about him, i just find him very lame and unneeded

Castiel was there to do what he has been doing all season--trying to save Dean and Sam. They are his friends and he keeps tabs on them to make sure they don't need saving (like they have a fewl times this year). When they disappear for days, he goes looking for them to make sure they're all right. When they are not, he saves their lives, or in this case tries to do so. I suppose some people would prefer that Sam be left without lungs and Dean with stomach cancer, since they don't need his help.

Ever since it has become obvious that Dean and Sam are up against archangels and such, they have needed someone better able to help them than Bobby. Castiel serves this purpose. Luckily, Kripke and the other writers love him and enjoy writing for him, so we can look forward to having him around from now on. That makes me and all of the very many Castiel fans very, very happy.

As always... a longer, more coherent review will be posted later lol, but these are my thoughts for now:

THE MOTHER****ING TRICKSTER IS GABRIEL?! I totally did not see that one coming at all. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after that reveal.

Why does the show find it necessary to continue painting Sam in the worst possible light ever? I was seriously pissed off at the questions asked during the Japanese game show segment. There was really no need for that imo. Especially the "John and Mary would still be alive if Sam was never born" one. Ugh. I really hate that they went there.

Overall, the episode was hilarious, and I enjoyed the majority of it. I still need to watch it again to get my thoughts in line.

Ok, I watched the episode for the second time and I am happier now. Honestly, this episode truly was amazing. The comedy, to the reveals... it was awesome. I always sorta knew if Sam was not born Mary and John would still be alive but that is sad to hear. Thank goodness that was in Japanese or else it would be tough to see those poor boys hearts just break. As for the trickster...well played, Kripke, well played. I don't know if he had something like this in mind for the Trickster since Tall Tales but it worked really well with the current story.
Once again, destiny myass. I stand behind Dean that they can make their own effing destiny. And those little comparisons do nothing for me. I admit I don't know much about Michael, but apart from past mistakes and not wanting to follow his fathers past, I don't see many similarities between Sam and Lucifer. Last time I checked Sammy didn't feel like destroying the human race, so to that I say, "Shut up, Gabriel." I refuse to believe this whole thing is gonna end with them fighting each other. Nah-ah. We have seen enough of that now. Though, I have to admit I want to see less talking about the apocalypse and vessels and see a little more of them doing something about it! I'm just saying.
I will stop babbling now.

As for the Castiel debate, I do like Cas, I really do...but I also am having trouble finding what his purpose is this season. But I trust Kripke and I am sure his role will become more obvious soon enough.

Those questions did put Sam in bad light...I understand the second one for its reveal thing but did both have to show negative light on Sam?? I think the trickster was going a little far there, no?

Casey- I actually meant to have faith that Krip was going somewhere with Cas starting from like after 5.01, cause I think he was integral and had some good character development before that. (Don't know why I thought you thought otherwise. I know you're not a Cas fan)

I'm definitely not gonna try to convince you that he's important to the show, but I'll just try to convey why I think he was last season. Other than the physical, obvious helping them out stuff, I think Cas is our main link to learning about angels, how they think, telling us how they relate and differ. He's our inside man, if you will, and I think with angels being so important to the mytharc now, understanding them has only made my viewing more interesting. He's also fueled some Dean!angst (or at least a venue for it to be expressed), which I kind of love *evilgrin* I'll assume you didn't like the Dean!crying scene in "On the Head of a Pin," since you're not a Cas fan, but I just thought it was one of the best scenes of the fourth season, and I can't see how we could have had that with anyone else. I thought "I guess I'm not the man either of our dads wanted me to be" was just the most killer line too. Also, I find the Dean/Cas character parallelisms to be pretty fascinating. It's like Cas gives us another window to Dean (or mirror, if you'll allow it).
