Yes, this is part 1 of the season finale but no, we aren't going to get a 2-hour episode. Part2 will be on next week.

And with this episode, the show continues its tradition of taking my heart and breaking it into teeny, tiny little pieces.

I didn't think anything could top the "Oh, Dean" factor of the end of CSPWDT, but I think the scene where they were trying to get Dean to stay in the djinn-created dreamworld may have done it. Dean just about broke my heart there.

Although I think the strongest scene in the whole episode was probably the one at John's grave, where Dean was desperately trying to convince his father's memory (the father he knew, that is, not the one who played softball) and himself that it would be okay to stay there, to not go and change things back. That they, the whole family, deserved this - Mary alive, Sam happy and safe with Jess, John dying of natural causes and his soul not trapped and suffering. But even though he thought it was real, then, Dean still knew what choice he had to make.

And so he went hunting the djinn, determined to put things back. Putting the lives of all those people the Winchesters have helped ahead of his own happiness.

I found Sam's line towards the end to be interesting, how when Dean tells him that he and Dean didn't get along in the djinn-created world, Sam says something about how he thought it was supposed to be a perfect life. Like Sam knows that things simply couldn't be right and perfect in any world where he and Dean weren't close.

Rewatched this episode yesterday, and it's just as good upon rewatch. Maybe even better, as I pick up all the little details. Like how Dean flinches back a bit when Mary first goes to touch him, not sure it's really her until she answers his question about her telling him angels were watching over him when he was a kid.

I don't seem to be able to go very long without feeling the need to rewatch a Supernatural episode.

Love Wishworld Sam's response to finding the lamb's blood. Very understandable reaction for someone who had no former experience with hunting supernatural creatures. And Dean's just so matter-of-fact about it, all "Yeah, I know how it sounds, but it's real." The best part of the scene was Dean calmly rolling down the window and throwing Sam's phone out it, though.
