I got that when it came out. I remember seeing the video for Mother Earth before that.

Can you imagine what this video (and Ice Queen!) would have been like with the technology/budget of present WT? XD

I really liked them. I love the fantasy feels!

I was reading the comments on it the other day. Some were under the impression it was a new video when it was uploaded and blasted the effects and quality of the video. WT fans had to come back and say that it's from way back in 2000 and WT didn't have the big budget at the time. Still, I would love if they re-did the videos for Mother Earth and Ice Queen with the technology today!

^ Yep. I actually love reading them. Especially when people get into ridiculous arguments online. It's fascinating reading.

True, that. Sharon has never not looked amazing.

Hi Welcome to the WT fandom! I wouldn't call WT aggressive or shouty either.

As a massive long time (well, 11 years) Within Temptation fan, I can easily attest that although you might not like what you hear with some of their heavier songs, some of them may grow on you. Angels was the first song I heard from theirs and I absolutely loved it. So The Silent Force was the first album I listened to. Their very first album Enter, (released way back in 1997) like Nellie has mentioned, was much darker, heavier and a few songs included growls from band member Robert Westerholt and Orphanage vocalist George Oosthoek on Deep Within. It was a very different album compared to more 'modern' WT. I never thought I'd like it, 'cause I wasn't into 'aggressive' music either, but the growls grew on me 'cause they complimented and contrasted Sharon's stunning voice beautifully. However, after 'Enter,' they mostly moved away from the growls. Mother Earth is their second album and this is where they atoned their 'symphonic metal' style for many years. But all the songs are unique and not all of them are heavy. If you prefer 'softer' songs from WT, I recommend the following;

2nd album Mother Earth
Mother Earth - a 'heavier' song than others I will recommend, but not overly so, and something I hope you enjoy as it's one of my all time favourite songs.
Perfect Harmony - a beautiful melody with soft relaxing tones and guitar rifts.
Our Farewell - a gorgeous ballad
Neverending Story - a soft, mystical and sweeping song

3rd album 'The Silent Force' - seeing as you already enjoy three songs from this album, you might want to try the whole album. But here are a few of my recommendations.

Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)
Pale
Somewhere
The Swan Song
Towards the End

4th album 'The Heart of Everything' - a heavier affair I'd say than The Silent Force, but nevertheless an amazing album and one of my favourites of theirs.

What Have You Done
Frozen
All I Need
Forgiven

5th album 'The Unforgiving' - again a different sound to The Heart of Everything, but WT are a band that are always changing and evolving, they never stick to exactly the same style.

Fire and Ice
Where is the Edge
Sinead
Lost
Stairway to the Skies

6th album Hydra - Not as many songs you may like as the others but give these a try

Edge of the World
The Whole World Is Watching

And now their latest album Resist, yeah it's heavier, darker, grittier. But you might want to give these songs a try;

Firelight
Mercy Mirror

A few extra songs you might want to give a try (from B sides/singles)

Overcome (B side Stand My Ground single)
Bittersweet (B side Mother Earth)
World of Make Believe (B side Angels)

And lastly, I'd recommend you check out their live acoustic album 'Acoustic Night at the Theatre' where they played a whole set list of songs in an acoustic style.

I hope you enjoy these recommendations. I based everything from the list you liked. These songs I hope will give you an appreciation of not only Sharon's amazing voice, but also a taste of WT's many different sounds and themes. You never know, you might want to check out the rest of their songs or re-listen to a few you weren't sure of, they might just grow on you! Enjoy!
Hy!
Thank you for the thorough answer, I only saw your comment today but I began listening to some of the songs right away. These are the ones I tried yet:
  1. Lost
  2. Forgiven
  3. Pale
  4. Sinead
  5. All I Need
  6. Somewhere
  7. Edge of the World
And I seriously loved every single one, specially Forgiven, I already listened to that one 4 times it's just so nice. It was also the first one I listened to. Pale reminds me of enya a bit in the beginning then the chorus is different to her style.
Lost is also another really spectacular song.

So thanks again for the great recommendations, I am making my way through them slowly. I find that there is only a certain amount of new music I can digest per day, after that an exhaustion happens and I don't really notice things the same way as before, so I am savoring the ones I already found and then slowly expanding over the list.

You're welcome! I'm really glad you loved those 7 songs you listened to so far!

I can understand that, it's a good way to warm your way into a particular band's music by taking in a few songs at a time. Especially since WT's back catalogue is pretty big. I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of them!

I hope you will end up checking everything out! Out of all the FFM bands, they're quite "tame" in terms of aggressive/shouty-ness It's all quite enjoyable!

I will add this, if you like that 80s kind of vibe of the Unforgiving, I'd also check out Covered By Roses (Hydra) and Mad World (Resist)

Well now I'm in a WT mood.. yay for work music!
