Underground / Seldom heard of Artists/Bands
Okay, my friend and I are writing an article for our school newspaper on Underground bands....etc. If you guys could list your favorite bands that aren't really heard of, we'd be thrilled! Just don't list local bands, cuz we can't access their music, thus reviewing them would be...difficult.
Samples of what we have include: K's Choice THC Four Star Mary and a few others... list away! |
some UK bands that deserve a chance -
Biffy Clyro Mogwai Funeral for a Friend Jetplane Landing |
that's really helpful, thanks
anything else you guys have to add would be really great also, if you could specify the type of music the band is usually classified as, that would be great too. thanks! |
The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Chaotic Roots
|
You should try this thread. A large majority of those bands (if not all) are fairly unheard of.

Biffy Clyro - scottish post-hardcore
Mogwai - melodic scottish noise Funeral for a Friend - emo-core/emo Jetplane Landing - fugazi-style emo. hope this is further helpful if you're looking for true underground then Jetplane Landing are probably the best since they're still on the toilet venue circuit and when they tour, they tour like madmen. kinda like Capdown...(british ska punk) [ 01-08-2004: Message edited Sirithalcariel ] |

Have to second Mogwai. Amazing, amazing band.
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. I don't know how much I've pimped these guys, but god damn, they deserve it. My favourite band at the moment. Full Scale. Small aussie band, but very good if you like heavy rock/metal. |
Joydrop are an excellent, very underappreciated band. One of my favorites, actually. But K's Choice isn't really worth mentioning in my opinion. Sarah Bettens (sp) has a nice voice, but overall that band's songs are just mediocre at best.
What about Esthero? Is she/they considered underground? Or Ladytron? Poe? Mira? Delerium? Ummm...these are just the few I can think of from my CD collection, which unfortunately consists of a lot of things considered "mainstream"... edit: Thought of more, ones I'm not really sure about as they may be considered mainstream in their homelands: Cowboy Junkies, Portishead, oooh and what about Mazzy Star? Bah, I don't know. [ 01-09-2004: Message edited Kryssi ] |
Lost North Star--in the CA Inland Valley. But last I heard, they broke up...

I love Sarah Betten's voice, but love only a few of K's Choice's songs. Specifically off the top of my head Virgin State of Mind, Now is Mine and All of This Past. I also like Esthero and Delerium. [ 01-09-2004: Message edited TheCheshireKitten ] |

Spiderbait is a kickass band. I'm not sure if they're still together or what, but they're an aussie band. Their song is also played during one scene in 10thingsihateaboutyou.
Jack Off Jill broke up about 4 years ago, but they are awesome. They're goth/gothic rock or nu-metal? Jessicka's got the best voice. Scarling/ also is very good. Same lead singer as JOJ. Darling Violetta is ohh soo amazing. they play the angel theme song. |
