Thought Provoking songs with Meaningful Lyrics
Hey guys!
I am a big fan of paying attention to lyrics in songs. I love the ones that mean something and try to convey a message. I am always looking for songs that hit home. What are some of your favorites? Be sure to post the lyrics and if you can find the video with lyrics, even better. To get us started: I think Black Eyed Peas "One Tribe" has a great message: "One Tribe, one time, one planet, one race Its all one blood, don't care about your face The color of your eye or the tone of your skin Don't care where ya are Don't care where ya been Cause where we gonna go Is where we wanna be The place where the little language is unity And the continent is called Pangaea And the main ideas are connected like a spear No propaganda, They tried to upper hand us Cause man I'm loving this peace I don't need no leader That's gonna force feed a Concept that make me think I need to Fear my brother and fear my sister And shoot my neighbor or my big missile If I had an enemy, then my enemy is gonna try to come and kill me Cause I'm his enemy There's one tribe ya'll One tribe ya'll We are one people Let's cast amnesia, forget about all that evil Forget about all that evil, that evil that they feed ya Let's cast amnesia, forget about all that evil That evil that they feed ya Remember that we're one people We are one people One people, one people [One People] One people, one people [One People] One people, one people [One People] One tribe, one tribe One tribe, one time, one planet, one [race] Race, one love, one people, one [and] Too many things that's causing one [to] To forget about the main cause Connecting, uniting But the evil is seen and alive in us So our hopes are colliding And our peace is sinking like Poseidon But, we know that the one [one] The evil one is threatened by the sum [sum] So he'll come and try and separate the sum But he dumb, he didn't know we had a way to overcome Rejuvenated by the beating of the drum Come together by the cycle of the hum Freedom when all become one [one] Forever One tribe ya'll We are one people" I don't know if you payed attention to "All Star" lyrics from Smashmouth way back when but especially the line: "Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas I need to get myself away from this place I said yep what a concept I could use a little fuel myself And we could all use a little change" You guys have any favorites? |

I love Black Eyed Peas' socially-conscious (not sure if I used the right expression, but you probably know what I mean) lyric. They are so soaked with humanitarianism, optimism and freedom love.
I came across Possessed My Belief ages ago, while I was still in my early teens and I was at awe at the strong non-conformist attitude conveyed. While the lyric are rather simple and straightforward (and aggressive, but I think it's only there for the emphasis) I still find them powerful. I believe only the real Walk through life on what I feel Living my life from day to day What's wrong, what's right, who's to say I live how I want to live I don't regret my choice I give what I want when I want to give And I speak my voice Conformist pigs Gather around And criticize The life I've found Kill the pigs Hear them squeal They want to change The way I feel I cannot follow majority It's how I'm living Constantly Find the power To control Soul on ice Heads will roll My belief |

There is also a song I liked called "Honestly". It might be a religious song. I am not very religious, but I liked the lyircs, part goes: If you don't see the real me, you won't see what mercy's done. If you don't see my weakness, you won't see what love has won. If you don't see the distance from the darkness to the sun You won't see, Honestly If you don't see the real me, you won't see what grace has done. |

One of my favourite Napalm Death's anti-racism lyric: Unchallenged Hate A chronic complaint of dimness Prevails your profound ideology A romantic vision of a "master race" Attained through coercive forms of authority Your observance is negligence If you see the threat from different cultures We're all in this sinking ship All of us together Where does the white man stand? Where does the black man stand? Where do we all ****ing stand? KNEE DEEP IN THE ****! Look into yourself And you'll find the real oppressor To a life of unchallenged hate It's you who's the ******! Hope that nobody will find the n-word offensive (I'll edit the line out if it's a problem), it's the "speak to them in their language" case. Oh, nevermind, I see it's done automatically. |

A favourite for years now:
Iron Maiden Blood on the World's Hands Sometimes it makes me wonder Sometimes it makes me question Sometimes it makes me saddened Always it makes me angry but... When you can see it happening The madness that's all around you Nobody seems to worry The world seems so powerless to act... It's out of control Blood on the world's hands Each day a new toll Another assassination The same day a new creation But what are they coming into Security of a world that brings... One day another killing Somewhere there's someone straying Another a savage raping Meanwhile there's someone laughing at us It's out of control Blood on the world's hands Each day it goes on Brutality and aggression Tomorrow another lesson Expecting another air raid Praying for a geaserfire They say things are getting better No need to be complacent There's chaos across the border And one day it could be happening to us It's out of control Blood on the world's hands It's our epitaph It's out of control Someone should know Blood on the world's hands |

I have quite a few song lyrics that inspire me or make me feel a certain way... which isn't too hard to do.. but here goes..
Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys & Jay-Z "Statue of Liberty, long live the World trade, Long live the king yo, I'm from the empire state" Yes I realize it's not a super inspirational song... but for some reason this makes me very proud of having grown up in the city of new york even though I left it behind four years ago for arizona! Moments - Emerson Drive "I've had my moments, days in the sun, moments I was second to none, moments, when I knew i did what I thought I couldn't do, like that cool night on the e street bridge, when I young man almost did it in, I was right there, wasn't scared a bit, I helped to pull him through.... looking at me now you may not know it, but I've had my moments" ^^ one of my all time favorite songs. the video makes me want to cry. __________________

Song: Winter I should know Who I am by now I walk The record stands somehow Thinking of winter Your name is the splinter inside me While I wait And I remember the sound Of your November downtown And I remember the truth A warm December with you But I don't have to make this mistake And I don't have to stay this way If only I would wait The walk has all been cleared by now Your voice is all I hear somehow Calling out Winter Your voice is the splinter inside me While I wait I remember the sound Of your November downtown And I remember the truth A warm December with you But I don't have to make this mistake And I don't have to stay this way If only I would wait I could have lost myself In rough blue waters in your eyes And I miss you still I remember the sound Of your November downtown And I remember the truth A warm December with you But I don't have to make this mistake And I don't have to stay this way If only I would wait It's a really sad song but it's so deep as well. I first heard it on an episode of Scrubs and thought it was one of the best uses of music ever. __________________
