And I'm here! This is such a suprise, right Auré?
Because Auré was the one who made me find out about them, as she used Glosoli for an awsome Gilmore Girls music video. When I watched it, I immediatly fell in love with the music, it literally sent me shivers. So I looked for more songs from them, and I bought Agaetis Byrjun and Takk -both masterpieces.

It's as you said Auré, either you love them, either you hate them. Their music is all about feelings (they say it themselves, that's why they have no lyrics). It's soooo weird, but also unique. And their musique has a particular strength that no other band has...
So that was my fangirl rant. Anyone else?

My sister loves Sigur Ros, so does my friend... I've been commanded to listen to them but I don't have any impression of them! I must go listen to Takk (I have that entire album thanks to said sister).

I would so recommand Glosoli the best song on Takk I believe, and try listening to it from beginning to end. It just grows in you.
Sigur Ros likes to repeat the same thing/melody (I don't know how to explain) for like a whole minute, and at first you're like it's too long but then it starts to grow in you and then another instrument makes it more intense and more intense....

And also their music vids are beautiful.

Judge by yourself.

Glosoli
Vidrar vel til voltarasa
Svefn-g-englar

Gwen, I think you'd like them, especially Takk, so LISTEN TO YOUR SISTER!! Because it sounds kind of like Radiohead in some ways (no I'm not obsessed ) I can't remember the name of this particular song, but there's one that finishes with brass (is that how you say it in English? not sure... ) I reminds me of "How to disappear completly". And i even read in a magazine about Radiohead that they were in the list of bands that were influenced by Radiohead. (and no, I'm so not trying to bribe you into Sigur Ros...)

BTW, in case some curious lurkers pass around, go check their official site: eighteen seconds before sunrise - official sigur ró³*·ebsite You can legally download songs for free!

ETA: Auré: It's exactly that. I played Glosoli to one of my friends, and at some point, she looked at me and said "yeah, it sounds nice, but it's a bit tiring" and as soon as she said that, another instrument came in, and I could see she was into it. She didn't say a word up until the end of the song, and then said "Wow. could i borrow it?"

And BTW: drawing while listenning to Sigur Ros, is great! That's what I did this morning! Soothing...

Well, I'm dumb and only just noticed this thread. I adore Sigur Ros, and keep trying to convince Gwen to listen to them (I sent you that Untitled stuff, you have no excuse woman!).

Untitled 4 is probably my favourite of theirs. There's a heap if their stuff on YouTube as well if anyone wants to watch videos or listen to them before downloading songs.

Ha! Christmas Hyde. Sorry. I had to mention your icon .

Yes, Untitled 4 is gorgeous. Untitled 1 is very good too, probably my second favourite.

I love regular Hyde but Hyde in a Christmas hat is genious!

I love how all of () is in hopelandic, so really it's up to the listener what the song is about.

So glad to see the thread's back!
I was just listenning to untitled 4, coincidence!
Auré sent me (), so now, I have all 3 albums, and i can't decide which one is my favorite. I think they are very different from one another.
My favorite song is probably Glosoli, mostly because this is how I found out about the band. I always have a special thing for the 1st song I hear.

Isn't Takk in hopelandic as well?
I just love the name of this language, "hopelandic", how poetic...

Haha! Glad to see I'm not the only one working on that cause!
BTW, I searched in my drawers and found the magazine I was talking about in my previous post. Here's a translation for those who are interested (and no, Gwen, it has nothing to do with you... )
Aegatis Byrjun:
An UFO from Iceland. Their authors had probably never heard of Radiohead before, but they composed an album as adventurous, moving and lyric as Kid A, with their their own insular imagination. They'll be protected by Radiohead for a long time, as well as Godspeed you Black emporer!.
(uh? )
(English is not my mother tongue, and I suck at translating, so be kind! )

I was just at their website and under news it says:

sigur rós’s official myspace page has been updated with music and artwork from hlemmur, the band’s soundtrack to the 2002 film. the album was previously unreleased but will be given a dvd+cd double release later this summer with a 32-page booklet hand-drawn by the band. the myspace page has been in hibernation over the past few months but has returned again, to be updated more often in the future.

A dvd + cd release with a 32 page booklet hand-drawn by the band! I can't wait!!

That's amazing news! I'll probably get it, if it's not too expensive. I wonder how the booklet will be... But the artwork on their albums are great, always special...
I didn't know they participated to a soundtrack! What is that movie about? Has anyone seen it? or heard of it?

Glad to see the thread's back too!!!!

Thanks for the news, I'm listening to the new songs right now! liking them so far.

I don't know which song is my favorite! I love Glosoli like Pauline, but I also really love Untitled 8, svefn-g-englar, andvari, viorar... and so many, no really I can't choose!
But I guess I'd choose ( ) for the album.

I discovered Sigur Ros with Staralfur (thanks to the person who made a Jack and Audrey vid with this song!) What about you? Pauline, I know already!

Oh and as you said Pauline, Hopelandic...how poetic!

I'll try to make some fanart for the first post.

Auré
