She recorded her first album Universe at the age of 19 and has since completed three other albums, Blue Parade (1998), Night Bugs (2002), and Day One (2004). Night Bugs was her first major label album, co-produced by Slean and Hawksley Workman, and released by WEA in Canada and Atlantic Records in the United States. It was heavily inspired by cabaret music. On September 28, 2004, Slean released her fourth album, Day One. Here Slean's piano takes a less important spot for the first time in her career. The focus is more on beats, rhythms and guitar, which shines through in the album's first single, the cheeky "Lucky Me". The up-tempo title track "Day One", and "Mary", a song about Slean's grandmother, were released as the second and third singles. In October 2006, Slean released a mostly-live album, Orphan Music, which consists of songs recorded live at Toronto's Harbourfront Theatre and Vancouver's East Cultural Centre. Other new tracks featuring Slean and the piano were recorded at DNA Recording in Toronto and Kensaltown Studios in the UK. Also in 2006, she contributed two tracks ("Us and Them" and "Comfortably Numb") to Pink Floyd Redux, a modern 12-track tribute to Pink Floyd. Slean is probably best known for a track on Night Bugs, a piano-heavy pop tune called "Sweet Ones". She was also featured on the Fox TV network as the pianist in Sunrise, the fictional town where bodies started piling up in Murder in Small Town X, a short-lived reality TV series. In late 2004, she filmed Black Widow, a film noir musical based on the Evelyn Dick murder case. It premiered in September 2005 on the film festival circuit and on CBC Television in January 2006. In 2006, Sarah teamed up with video director Nelson Chan "Mary" ,"Day One" to create a three part short film Tales of The Baroness,. the first segment will air May, 11, 2007.on Bravo! presents. | Oh wow! sorry guys, everytime I looked there were no messages and then thought the thread had dropped to the abyss of FF! my mistake!! I'm so glad there are people who love Sarah too! Nice avis Missy! I made this one a long time ago: ![]() I know Sarah is working on several things at the time, for exemple a musical she has started a long time ago. She appears in several festival or concerts in Canada. I'm waiting for her to come to France (she cancelled last time, fortunately I did not know her yet!) I love all the songs you mentionned. I especially love Last year's war and Narcolepsy weed on her orphan music album. But if I had to choose a favorite song I don't think I could! There are so many. Auré ETA: I guess Missy, we love the Sara(h)'s, well maybe not all of them! ![]() __________________ "A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence." | No,not at all! that's a great banner, love the font you used! What should we put in the First post. I want to erase what I wrote, and list the albums, maybe link to some youtube vids I don't know if we're allowed. Anyway, I think Sarah should be more on the air or on TV, we need to hear more from her. For those living in Canada, the short animated film she has worked on (and composed the music for, called Tales of the Baroness will be shown on several channels in May: May 11 Bravo! channel at 7:30 pm ET May 12 Citytv Toronto at 7 pm ET May 19 A-Channel Victoria at 6 pm local time May 19 A-Channels Ontario (London, Barrie, Ottawa) at 7:30 pm local time I'm just passing the info from sarahslean.com where you can find most of the news. I'm just a new fan so don't know a lot about her actually! Auré __________________ "A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence." Leopold Stokowski | |||

| I've discovered her on a French tv show and I really liked what I heard then. And finally I've bought her album "Day one" and I haven't been deceived at all ... on the contrary I really like it very much ! __________________ Lorelai : "AB FAB sweety darling" Best female characters : Lorelai(Gilmore girls),Spencer(PLL),Kahlan(Legend of the seeker),Bones(Bones),Bree (DH)... | |||

| I love Day One too, but I think I prefer Orphan music, the live album, it's really powerful, more intimate. The thing that bothers me a little, but the thing I like at the same time (no, no I'm not complicated!) is her lyrics. Actually, I find it great that her lyrics are like poetry and the meaning is not always handed out to you on a plate, you have to analyse the lyrics, just like I use to do in college. But it also bothers me because I don't always know what she's talking about. For example what do you understand in this song? Narcolepsy Weed Look at you Broken bird Narcolepsy weed Highway-side Like a puppet cat You can’t wake I can’t sleep And now they’ve got you Stealing cars and chasing lullabies How will I drag you out of motel daydreams When will you realize? I don’t make sugar promises Like dandelion seeds Lying still With open palms I’m only watching you breath They talk like they know Like they believe But I’d bet the brotherhood That if they found you here They’d leave Oh good day orphan town Peace is raining down Warm your hands On my shoulder blades My parents gave me this peace Who we are is how we love That is all I need So tell the morning Night is lifting And mauve is moving in Like the steam that rises From the garden beds Your pain finds the wind Oh Good day orphan town Peace is raining down Good day orphan town Peace is raining down I have my understanding, but not sure at all. And did you guys know she was also a painter? I'm not too fond of what she does, but some of it I like. Auré __________________ "A painter paints pictures on canvas.
