Reggae Raggamuffin Business - #1

Hi to all reggae fans here at FF!

To get the ball rolling... I enjoy reggae music as it is very relaxing. How about you? Any reggae artists you are into? Any recs? So much to talk about.

---------------

REGGAE RAGGAMUFFIN BUSINESS

Brief History:
"Reggae is a genre that grew out of several other musical styles, including both traditional Jamaican music, including ska and mento, and American R&B. In the early days of radio, stations were super-high-powered, and several stations from Florida and New Orleans were powerful enough to reach Jamaica. Reggae only came about as a distinct genre in the 1960s." About.com

Lol, I were listening to Busy Signal when I started to read this topic I love reggae (roots and some dancehall)! Right now I'm pretty into S.O.J.A, Collie Buddz, Tanya Stephens, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Busy Signal.

Hi Jeone! I'm Barely. Wicked to meet another reggae fan!

Whooot Collie Buz is great! I am listening to him right now! He looks very dreamy btw What's your favorite song? From the little bits that I heard of Linton Kwesi Johnson, his music is different. In an interesting way. Haven't heard the others you mentioned.

Other stuff I'm listening to at the moment: House of Shem (someone recomended them to me, so giving them a go...) and Jahcoustix & The Dubious Neighbourhood ( ) Have you heard of them?

This post ended up longer than initally inteded, hehe.

Hi Barely! My name is Yvette

Collie Buddz is awesome! I saw him this summer on a swedish festival call Uppsala Reggaefestival! And oh, I must say Let Me Know Yours?

I've actually heard about Jahcoustix. They were at an other swedish festival this summer - Peace And Love! I unfortunely missed that concert

But I haven't heard about The Dubious Neighbourhood! But I'm gonna look them up!

Edit: I just have to recommend this swedish group - Hoffmaestro! YouTube - Hoffmaestro - Highwayman (with lyrics) I love them!

You saw Collie Buddz live? Nice!!! My favorite song at the moment is "Eyez". Uppsala Reggaefestival sounds awesome btw! Is reggae popular in Sweden?

Cool you heard about Jahcoustix. He is great! (Haven't seen him live though. One day.) I was immediately drawn to him because of his roots reggae sound. The Dubious Neighbourhood is just the band he plays with (ala Bob Marely and the Wailers). Pretty cool. Anyway, I hope you get to see him in the near future!

I'll listen to Hoffmaestro ASAP!

ETA: I like your rec. Nice fusion between reggae and ska!

I'm changing the opening post. Any suggestions?

Listening to "Now She's Gone". Have you seen the "Mamacita" video? Very Sean Paul like, lol.

David from RealVibez.com interviews Collie Buddz in Miami:

Are you talking about Jahcoustix & Dubious Neighbourhood? Yeah, love his songs! Specially "Hot Stone". Very nice voice!

Hahaha, take your time

That's cool! How was the Green Day concert? Obviously more than great, since you are still in shock Did they play any of their older songs??

Any news in the Raggamuffin Business?

I'm hoping for the release of the Reggae Raggamuffin festival lineup.... Normally it should be already up by now.
