| Reading Festival 2006 Recap Friday August 25th 2006 My bro dropped me off @ the fest around 8am (he had to get to work, so to avoid traffic he took me really early *yawn*) lol. In a way the earliness was a good idea as it meant the queue to get in was pretty damn quiet, and exchange my ticket for a wristband took like 10mins as opposed to 45 to 1hr if I had waited till later!!! The wristbands are MUCH better this year -- Instead of some tacky bit of plastic, its actually material =D, I can’t really describe it very well. I’ll get a picture up later. So when I got to the site I called my friend Troy (he had camped from Thurs), and he came and met me by a huge tree which seems to be central point for meeting peeps heheh ![]() He came and got me and took me back to his campsite, and I greeted everyone there. Some faces I recognised, some I didn’t, but it’s all good. Fest is the place to be to make new friends ^___^. Once everyone was fully awake we decided to go on a breakfast mission – Troy’s bright idea. We had to walk all the way into town from the fest site (it’s about 20mins each way =|). But the breakfast was damn good! And it filled us up for the rest of the day ^____^. Cant go wrong for £3 to be honest =) (was £4.50-£5 back at the fest). After eating we went to the local supermarket to stock up on booze/water etc before making our way back – me and Troy caught the bus back cos our feet were knackered and we were pretty damn tired!!! – my poor feet have blisters ![]() Anywho got back to camp and sat around and drank for a little while until we decided to see band – I had made a batch of Malibu and Coke from home, so I started drinking that. First band we went to see was Dashboard Confessionals @ 1.35pm on the Main Stage; we only stayed for a few songs cos we weren’t really feeling it. They were all alright I suppose. Lol At 2.35pm was the band I REALLY wanted to see on Friday – Panic! At the Disco!! OMFG!! I loved these guys, they were ****ing awesome!!! The upsetting is, halfway thru their first song, some ****ing PRICK chucked a bottle at Brandon (leader singers) head!! And knocked him out flat on his back for about a minute or so . I started f-ing and blinding wondering who the heck would do that! I mean honestly, if u don’t like a band, just dnt go and see them. No need to chuck things on the freakin stage!!But Brandon got back up and played the rest of the set and I was so relieved cos at one point I thought they might just leave, but they stuck at it, and now I love them even more =)!! I was singing and dancing like a mad-woman, but I didn’t care cos I was just f-ing excited to see them live!!! After Panic!, me and Troy fancied some comedy, so we went to the comedy stage and watched Alan Carr @ 3.40pm (of The Friday Night Project). He was bloody hilarious , he’s so camp its untrue, but I love him hehehe =DNext up were Fall Out Boy, and I have to say I was looking forward to seeing these guys, but was rather disappointed with their performance. I don’t know what it was, but they just didn’t seem to give it there all =\Straight after FOB were a Scottish band called Belle and Sebastian which was Troy’s choice to see. They were quite actually =D. During this band, my friend Amy from work called up and said she was back at her campsite and that I should come and see her. It’s quite funny actually, she’s been coming to the fest for the past 3yrs, but every time we arrange to meet up, it never happens cos I can never locate her campsite! However this yr, she gave me co-ordinates lol. So after belle and Sebastian, me and Troy took a little trek to purple camp to see her. It was actually Troy who spotted her (and he doesn’t even know her!), but I told him she had blond hair, and then there she was in all her glory ^___^. And cos it was such a joyous occasion Amy decided “this calls for a joint”.... we had one... or 2 lol and drank some Strongbow Cider ![]() We were planning on seeing Kaiser Chiefs, but we kinda missed them due to being at Amy’s *le sigh*, but we did go back into the arena to see Dizzee Rascal on the Radio 1 Stage. It was pretty crowded, but we managed to get a good view of the screen and we enjoyed the show =). It started to rain, quite a lot too, so we got pretty drenched lol. After Dizzee we went back over to the main stage to see some of Franz Ferdinand (the headliners for Friday) we stayed for about 30mins of their set, then decided to get some grub and head back to the campsite – both of us bought a pasty from the West Cornwall Pasty Co – do this every year cos they are LUSH!! Hehehehe Back to the campsite we went where the others had started a roaring fire to keep us warm. I stayed for about an hr then decided it was time to head home as I was cold and tired! Lol Saturday August 26th 2006 Arrived at the site a lot later than Friday, got there about 12/12.15pm. The entrance was pretty busy but it was okay as I wasn’t in any rush. I gave Troy a call to make sure he was back at the campsite as he had gone home about 9am to get washed and changed and to buy food/drink for the BBQ later on in the evening. Again we sat around the campsite drinking/chilling until we decided we wanted to see a band we liked. Don’t think we moved till like 3pm ish when we went to get food – bought some chips lol yum…. And bloody expensive ¬___¬, bastards! Lol everything is soooo bloody expensive at the fest. Something u could get for cheap outside is like 3 times more @ the fest! Unbelievable lol. At 4.25pm The Automatic were on the Radio 1 Stage (“what’s that coming over the hill? Is it a monster, is it a MONSTER?!?”), these guys were pretty good, and they got a pretty big crowd =D. After them we went back to the campsite until about 5.50pm, then we set off back to the arena to see Feeder who were on at 6.05pm on the Main Stage. Really enjoyed their set, but we missed the last 15 mins as we needed to get the BBQ started back @ the campsite b4 the next band we wanted to see came on. We had sausages, frankfurters, and burgers – and buns too =), Troy was so nice; he shared his food out with quite a lot of people! Bless him ^___^. Once we finished we had to rush back to the arena to see Arctic Monkeys @ 8.30pm. These guys were gr8, really got the crowd going ^___^The last band of the night were Muse. Now I’ve never seen these guys live b4, and don’t really know many of their songs, but after seeing them live I have a newfound love for them hehehe =D. They had strobe lighting and everything, very colourful n pretty hehehe. I left immediately after Muse had finished as once again, I was very tired!!! So me and Troy parted ways at the exit of the arena. Sunday August 27th 2006 The last day !!! I got to the site about the same time as Saturday and went straight to Troy’s campsite.Out came the drinks, lol it’s so funny to start drinking at midday, but there little else to do at the fest! Heheheh. The first band we saw were Taking Back Sunday @ 2.10pm. I only recently got into this band (thanks to Eddie ^_^), so I was pretty excited about seeing them live. They were aces hhehehe . I gave Eddie a call during “MakeDamnSure” so that she could listen to the song live. I’m not sure whether it sounded alright from her end lol, aint had the chance to ask yet! After TBS, we went back to the campsite and chilled out till about 3.30ish when me Troy and a coupla others wanted to go to the Comedy Stage and see if the rumours about Russell Brand pulling out were true. We got there, and unfortunately it was true .I then went to the poster stand and bought myself 2 posters – Panic! At the Disco and Lostprophets ^_______^. £4 each heh. Went back to the campsite after that, and I carefully put my precious posters in Troy’s tent =). More alcohol was then consumed. We remained there until about 6.45pm. We then went to the Main Stage to see My Chemical Romance @ 6.55pm. Another quite enjoyable band. After them, I decided to go pay Amy another visit. I hadn’t been able to contact her as no signal was available – most likely due to the fact that thousands of people are using their phones lol. Troy went to see one his friends whilst I went to Amy’s. I got to her campsite, but there was no-one about!!! I walked around for a bit then decided to back to Troy’s camp. However as I was walking back, I bumped into one of Amy’s friends who I recognised from the other night. I asked him where Amy was, and he said she was in the arena, but should be coming back soon. So I asked him if I could hang out in his campsite until Amy came back. She arrived bout 20mins later, totally *****ed on whatever she’d been drinking whilst watching Placebo – was quite funny hehhe. Bout 20mins after that Troy came over to see how I was doing *bless him =)*. He then went to see Maximo Park, and I told him I’d meet him back at the campsite. Roughly 10/15mins later, me and Amy (and her friend Abby), decided to go and see Maximo Park. However when we got into the arena, Amy said she was hungry, but she needed money, so she and Abby left to get money and I tried to contact Troy to see where he was. He was right in the middle of Radio 1 tent watching MP, so I had no chance of actually getting to meet him, so I went back to the campsite and warmed myself up round the fire ^_____^. I stayed @ the fest till about 1am, then decided it was time to head home. The worst part of the festival is definitely the toilets. URGH!!! The ones in the campsite area are literally just a whole in the ground, with a toilet seat on it – no flushing capabilities – so u can see (and smell) what people before have. . . DONE!! You can actually smell them from quite far away *yuck!!* The ones in the arena however are much nicer, they flush and are cleaned fairly regularly AND have toilet paper and soap/water to wash your hands ^___^ --- but the queues are horrendous lol – at least 20mins wait, if not half hr!!!All in all I had a fantastic time! Here’s to next year!!!
