Radiohead #4: New album "In Rainbows" out October 10th online!

Well, Radiohead aren't a band that require much introduction, but in case you happen to be living under a rock all these years, here is an overview, of sorts:

Radiohead are a British band from Oxfordshire, England, comprised of five musicians. Though often classed as alternative rock, they have been deeply influenced by music from a variety of genres. Radiohead is often praised as one of the most creative bands of their era, known for their multilayered songs and artistic evolution from album to album. They are seen by many to have maintained musical and political independence despite recording for a major label. They first broke into the music scene with the album Pablo Honey, containing the hit single 'Creep', a song about low self-esteem and self-hatred that many listeners could identify with. The song was so huge, in fact, that critics wrote the band off as one-hit wonders - a label that seemed to have weight after subsequent singles such as 'Pop Is Dead' were savaged by critics. However, Radiohead bounced back in the form of their second album, The Bends in 1995 - a much more mature-sounding rock album that spawned Radiohead's highest-ranked single on the British charts, 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)'. Two years later came what many people have hailed their best album, OK Computer - an album that has made many "Greatest Albums" lists. Some have also derided their work for its bleakness and lack of instant accessibility - in part due to the double dose of nihilism in the next two albums Kid A and Amnesiac, but it is also proof of the band's willingness to experiment and explore the boundaries of rock. Their most recent album, Hail To The Thief - controvesy still reigns over whether the title alludes to American president George Bush winning the presidency, the band has denied it - is seen to be a link, of sorts, between OK Computer and the next two albums, yet it is an album that has its distinct sound (a feature of all Radiohead albums). Thom has a solo album, The Eraser, however he does not call it a solo album and says he is not splitting up with the band - much to the relief of fans everywhere! They also have a live album, I Might Be Wrong - Live Recordings and are currently working on a new album, set to be released sometime in 2007.

Radiohead are (L-R):

Ed O'Brien (guitar, harmony vocals, special effects, percussion)
Phil Selway (drums and percussion)
Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, electronic programming)
Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboard, ondes martenot, electronic programming, string arrangements, various)
Colin Greenwood (bass, keyboards)

Several sites:
Radiohead.com
Dead Air Space
Wikipedia page
Green Plastic
At Ease

Radiohead's music videos, in order of release:
'Creep'
Missing 'Anyone Can Play Guitar' video
'Pop Is Dead'
'Stop Whispering'
Missing 'The Bends' video.
'My Iron Lung'. I'm not sure if this is the real video. I think so.
'Street Spirit'
'Just'
'Fake Plastic Trees'
'High and Dry'
'Paranoid Android'
'Karma Police'
'No Surprises'
'Pyramid Song'
'I Might Be Wrong'. No idea if this and 'Pyramid Song' are the correct videos, but I'm assuming so.
'Knives Out'
'There There'
'Go To Sleep'
Missing '2+2=5' video

I guess it's me who opens the thread again, then hope you guys don't mind! Oh and Simone, the vote Radiohead one - I didn't actually mean it as a title, I meant it for our signatures, because all of us have linked to voting for Music Artistes.

So yay! New thread! I thought September as well. Why do some people think it's November, though?

Oh...I see.

But hey, I'll give you guys the heads up this time. I'm possibly going to be gone for a few days. This time for some work out at my grandma's. I will try to access someone's unsecured wireless network while I'm out there, but if I can't find one, you won't hear from me until Friday evening at the earliest.

Hey! Welcome jenny09123! So, are you one of the mysterious 18 (last I checked that's how many it was anyway) voters over at the Request board?

It seems I can access an unsecured network so I won't be MIA for the week!

Hurrah Simone! I remember when my internet was down, unsecured wireless was my saviour You know, I feel kind of bad because I'm always opening the threads... but you guys don't mind, right?

Jenny! So nice of you to stop by. What's your favourite Radiohead song? I have the picture where your icon is from, but I like the way you included the word Radiohead in it.

New thread! And no, Gwen, I absolutely don't mind, I actually got online 2 days ago, and saw it was time to open it, but as I couldn't choose the title, I thought "let's let gwen do it!" (oh and also, I was in a hurry actually )

Welcome Jenny! Yet another one whose favorite song is Fake Plastic Trees, how unusual

I read in a magazine, Ed announced the album was almost finished. But what does almost mean in their vocabulary?
Really, september? that'd be great! There aren't so much albums that I buy as soon as they are released (I usually wait for sales) but Radiohead will definitely be one of those.

Oh those are all excellent songs Jenny and now that you've made the first (and second) post here? You have to keep coming back now. We can find you (just joking). Seriously though. We love posters here.

Pah Pauline! You lazy girl. But it's okay. I decided to use this because Simone wanted something LP7-related before it came out, and yeah this is pretty much the only time we can use it. And seriously, who doesn't love 'Fake Plastic Trees'? Even my sisters like it. It's just one of their best songs ever.

Almost could mean anything, really - the people at MT are going insane speculating about the release date and it's all kind of pointless because we don't know, do we? I like to think it's in September though. And dude... I'm buying it on the release date. We've waited long enough! Although I have IMBW - Live Recordings to tide me over. Yes, I got it today finally, I say. I was supposed to get it for my birthday (and that's in April, mind you) but my friends couldn't find it anywhere.

See...I have nothing new to tide me over. So I'm really hoping it's no later than September...November is the other speculated month, though I'm not sure why, but that seems so far away...

And Pauline, you certainly must buy it right away so we can discuss it to death...

It being a new thread and all, I should post my collection list. I'll try and refrain from posting my mega-list again until at least after LP7--that's my goal anyway-- so that I can work those songs in.

And we're still 6th with 21 votes in the polls... I mean, obviously we won't get it before people like Justing Timberlake and some of those American Idols... but still. I' surprised we have that many votes! Maybe we should start one of those campaign threads. It would be a good place to use that 'I trust I can rely on your vote' title. I kind of like everyone having different Rh lyrics in their sigs with the vote Radiohead link.

I was going to mention that as well. I'm actually really surprised that we've got so many votes, but it makes me very happy ooh, a campaign thread. That would be cool, except I don't really get it - what do you do in the thread, comment on the number of votes we've gotten? (Yes, you can see that I've never actually campaigned for a board before )

Aww, but I love your lists! Well, if you don't want to scare people off or something (just joking!) and buying the album is not an issue, really, especially not with you, [b]Pauline[/b,] because you haven't even heard the songs yet!

But the thing about the live album is... my CD player has conveniently decided to spoil on me, my dad's getting a new computer so for now we don't have the CPU and my sister's laptop's CD drive isn't working. the fates are conspiring against me! Why! I'm going to steal my other sister's laptop and listen to it if it kills me. Seriously. I want to hear it now!

My signature isn't Radiohead, though it's Spoon. Which, incidentally, is a good band, but that's neither here nor there.

Long post ahead, I have news:

so first, I found this really good website Stereogum. do you guys now it? It's great for every rock fan, you can download songs, legally, which is great to me, as I can't have a d/l program (long story.)
Anyway. Of course, I jumped on every Radiohead link I could find, and here: stereogum: Radiohead In NYC Mastering LP7, Hanging With Spoon, Bumming Camel Ultra Lights, Etc. Nothing new really, but they actually got to talk to the band, so it sounds pretty safe. But what's that comment about Nude? this song's been around for so long, it seems like it's still giving them a pretty hard time!
I just love the last sentance of the article. Haha so true.

But the reason i got in this site was actually this. I'm listenning to it right now, and... it's really weird, not such a big fan. But it's nice to hear some covers of something that's not Creep! Oh and I hadn't realised it's been 10 years OKC's been released... Not that I remember it, but oh well...
ETA: so help me, I can't decide here: Is Fitter Happier freaky, hilarious, genius, or awful? or all of those at the same time?

with Gwen about the campaign thread. I don't really see what it is, and I don't think I've seen any of those. Simone, help please?
I think we'll have to be veeeeery patient if we want to get our board!

Of course, I'll buy it right away, will probably have to walk for 30 minutes to get to the store (hoping they will have it, because they are sometimes late), but who cares? So yeah, please, not in November, I don't like walking when it's cold! (that should be a good reason enough for them to hurry, right?)

I've never done a campaign thread before either... and to be honest I don't see the point when we have this thread. I thought one of you mentioned something about it a couple weeks ago, perhaps I was mistaken. It seems redundant though...sort of like the couples board, if you ask me.

Anyway, Gwen, I know you're sig isn't Radiohead. Part of mine isn't either. I was referring to mine and Pauline's...Didn't you have one for a bit thought?

Yup. It was 'Arpeggi'.

Campaign threads are over at the Requests board but since none of us can figure the purpose of one this thread is good enough. And eh, Couples. I'm not a fan of the board, it has some problems.... but I suppose it's meant for people who ship couples who don't have their own boards (and so don't get to have a thread for that couple) - they can do so on the Couples board! But it's silly because shows with boards (for example, the House board) have couples on the Couples board (House/Cameron). But you know what? Whatever, really

I've been to Sterogum before, but I never remember to go there. It's not bad about the news (which isn't really news because both atease and MT have it already...), I think Colin just didn't want to give anything away. Or at least, I hope so - if 'Nude' doesn't make the album I will scream. It's one of their best!

Oh, OKX! Did you know, I was going to mention the exact same thing sometime in the future - I found it but I didn't post it because I was falling asleep. I haven't listened to all the tracks, though, only a few. Mostly they aren't even close to the original, but I'll listen to the rest and let you know.

Also, I've heard IMBW - Live Recordings already but in order to prevent this post from becoming an essay, I think I'll save it for the next post or something
