Placebo Appreciation Thread #23 - Home of the Homogoblin

Placebo Appreciation Thread #23: Home of the Homogoblin

The thread pet: The Homogoblin!

Courtesy of T.
Derived from the Brian quote "We thought about calling [Black Market Music] Haemoglobin, but we were afraid some stupid American DJ's gonna announce 'here's Tasting Men by Place-bo from their album Homogoblin."

The old thread is here.

We love Placebo because...
1)They are a three-man band that's 50% gay.
2)Brian's voice is beautifully haunting.
3)The lyrics are beautiful.
4)They don't take themselves seriously.
5)Brian is one of the most beautiful and creative men alive.
6)They can take an evil psycho stalker guy's disgusting, threatening message on Brian's answering machine, work it into their music and make it funny.
7)These boys are just so naughty.
8)They make you come to this thread at 4 a.m.
9)At first glance you can never tell if Brian's a boy or a girl.
10)They can lay us down anytime.
11)Brian breaks the word 'me' up and sings 'me - hee - hee - hee'.
12)Brian is sex personified when he sings(or speaks) in French.
13)They wrap us in lust and lunacy.
14)Instead of stressed we lie here charmed.
15)A nekked Brian can lead us like the blind anyday.
16)We understand the fascination.
17)We know they're as twisted as we are.
18)Our supply of porn tea will never run out.
19)They are gorgeous - even in christmas stockings.
20)Brian's got the best frocks and little tops.
21)Only Brian can wear something that barely resembles a hat, and still manage to look immensely shaggable in it.
22)Even Brian can't carry off the wearing of shorts, amazing as he is... he's only a human goth lady-boy.
23)Brian and perversity go together like chocolate and sin.
24)Stefan named his first electric guitar banana, because it was yellow...
25)Brian chased his production manager around the pool with a piece of wood that was bigger than he was
26)Bri is an alien sex dwarf.
27)While Bri may be a dick, he's our dick.
28)Brian has a yum bum.

Feel free to add to the list guys!

Take 'em out, Homogoblin!

BOYS SUCK. Eh-hem.

Anna - You've an Australian friend, kind of, how cool! Yes our summer/christmas holiday always stretches over our birthdays which is really fantastic. As for staying up late... I am such a night owl! I wasn't even tired, but I regretted it the next day because I barely had a bloody day. I've always got bags though I think. I'm sad you had a *****ed up day. I hope it's been better for you since sweetling. Mine sucked today, I think it is going around at the moment.

THANK YOU for that link! My friend is still looking for it I think! Lots of kisses and hugs and all things nice.

T- Well I think at that age I was ready enough to go so I don't have a problem with the age but to each their own! I remember being upset when my neighbour went to school, hehe. She was 2 years older and who was I meant to play with then, hmmm?! Meanwhile, that's so adorable, your brother was too nice! Though that bat story kind of goes against it... what the hell? My poor darlin-K!

Nicky - I blame it all on my asthma meds. I once said to Mum I thought they made me insane and she replied, "Sometimes I wonder too". I'm like, dude, I was joking. Hee, anyway, that was random, but yes! That and I fell of a bunk bed once while having a tantrum and into an empty suit case.

Side burns? Oh god. It's dinner but I'll be looking later and... god, sideburns?! BRIIIAN! If he grows a beard/goatie/etc I am taking him out, damnit, or asking the lovely homogoblin to.

Oh my preferring school to start later is more about the fact that it's simply nicer to play all day than study match or such, not about whether you're ready or not *G*. What can I say, I have my priorities straight .

Yeah, he definitely made up for having been too nice as a small kid .

And dammit, but the bastard definitely hasn't changed back: It was my name's day yesterday, so I got the usual breakfast in bed and all (quite lovely, though you E dear will probably disagree as there was horse on my rye bread and I'm not talking about mettwurst ). It was quite nice, but dammit I have a sadist as a brother: Made me a card, he did. A card with *****ing Effenberg pic on it .. You probably won't recognice the name except for Trine as the guy is German footballer. He's pretty much the player I had the most trouble stanging and Mikko keeps threatening to buy me a Bayern München shirt with his name on the back! Evil I tell you!! Thank god the shirts are quite pricey and Mikko's a cheap bastard, so I'm pretty safe from that . It's just that before yesterday, he hadn't realised he could torment me with the guy without spending a penny!

This was so bad that I had to concede that he's now even with me. I lead quite a bit because of that Aaron Carter CD I bought him as a present form Mikkeli, heh.

I think I have a pulsing vein in my forehead! I am making a shirt, and I was doing fabulously by myself. Let's be honest here people, bugger modesty, it was looking FAB! And then Mum comes in and keeps trying to make suggestions. I was snappish and told her I'd rather be left to do it by myself. But no, she's all hovery, and I end up cutting this band to a size she suggests... which is now, possibly, way too tight because I don't like things too tight at all. And I've now had to unpick said band TWICE. I may just hang myself with this band. This shirt is now going to give me bad memories and lots of anger. I'll still post a photo when it's done but for *****'s sake, if people would leave me be, I could figure it out which I think I'd proven by having NOT screwed it up until interfered with. *SEETHES*!!

OK I'm done!

T - You didn't tell me! Happy name's day. I'm not sure how to say that, but you get my happy vibes right? I hope it was a good day, asides from that bastardly brother. You'll have to get him back more, though really Aaron Carter is going to be bloody hard to beat. May I suggest Nikki Webster? She apparently dated him. Australian girl, performed at the Olympic opening ceremony, is a wanker. Strawberry Kisses is an especially deep, rivetting song! I love how much effort you guys put into this. It's brilliant.

Do I dare return to my shirt? I hate when it gets late. I mean, 11 pm... haven't showered, want to read my book, and there's just not enough hours. Not sure I have a) the time or b) the patience [and lack-of-exploding-vein] to return to it.

Aww sorry to hear about your shirt E Did you end up working some more on it? Tell us what it's like!

Happy nameday T! Hee, do you and your brother buy nice things for each other as well, or is it German footballers and Aaron Carter all the way? You have a funny way of showing your love...

E - aww, sorry to hear about the shirt *****tiness . I know how angry it can make you when you have someone giving "tips" over your shoulder constantly.. Poor you *hugs & gugs*. Why not leave the shirt alone for a efew days and then continuing only if you feel like it? And when no one's around to be a bastard .

Whoops *blushes*. Thank you dear . Of course I do *g*

Yeah, I'm thinking an Antti Tuisku card for him today could be a start . It's his name's day - well, his second name's, but still... so he does need to get a card *g*. Antti Tuisku is one of the most horrible products/singers that came from our idol.. and for some reason his albums sell like mad. Probably 7 year old girls the lot of them. He's quite the object of photomanips that circulate the net so I'm sure I could find a suitable pic *G*

Strawberry Kisses? I'll have to see if I can find that

Thanks . Oh dear!! You're wording there just reminded me of another thing he threatened to buy me: an anatomically correct Stefan Effenberg blow-up doll . Thank god I don't think they make those except maybe in some obscure München shop for entirely mad Bayern fans and Mikko wouldn't know about those *lol*.

We do and we like it that way . We do get eachother nice things too, but those are usually left for Christmas and birthdays . Name's days aren't that big a deal, so for those it's usually something smaller and odder *g*. Same for presents from trips which reminds me to say that the English language is stupid . No word for tuliainen - tsk tsk . In Finnish present/gift like a Christmas or birthday present is lahja and you can add joulu (xmas) or syntymäpäivä (bday) in front of it to be more precise, but then we have also tuliainen which is something you bring from a trip. Like if you go to Spain for a week, you won't come emptyhanded back... Or perhaps my dictionary isn't quite uptodate.. If it is, then a severy tsk tsk *G*. If not, whoops *G*.

It doesn't always limit to Mikko though - my dad's name's day (yeah, this is a bit odd a week since there's Paula's, Juhani's and Jorma's days all in one week and to make it even fuller, Mikko & my dad are both Juhanis ) .. .. so my dad's name's day is this week too and I got him a packet of pasta *lol*. We always disagree about what kind we should have and he has this odd thing about bear shaped paste. Thinks they're funny or something... so when I a few days ago noticed the same kind of pasta, but shaped like Warner Bros cartoon characters, I knew I had a winner *g*. He's just like me in the regard that he doesn't care a bit for Disney's cartoons, but he still loves WB's stuff. So while maybe pasta doesn't sound that great a present, I know he'll get a kick out of it *G*.

Babble much? *lol*

N - Well I unpicked the mistake but I've yet to cut another band out - decided the other was just too tight - and sew it on. It's going to be cute though! It's mostly black, singlet sort, but I've got a little red plastic buckle thing [like the buckles used on bag straps to make them adjustable] that's red on one shoulder that gathers it in. Then at the bottom it's going to have [this is what's giving me grief ] a big thick red band with three black buttons down the side. I hope I don't look like I'm wearing one of those belt things - you know those material things? - that are all the rage. I don't like to follow such fashion trends, heh, but it needed more red to match the shoulder thing! That was possibly far too descriptive, hee.

T - We have shaped pasta here too I think, I remember something about the rug rats having some? I don't know, I'm not sure I've seen the WB ones but it sounds great. I think presents like that are better! I probably will get back into the shirt tonight on the grounds that I must conquer it. Hee. But yeah... I'll be discouraging people from entering the room. For their own good of course. When you say photomanips I think "hehehe, nudy!" or "hehehe, slashy!" because that's what manips tend to be. What are they of? I'm very intrigued now and he sounds like a winner. You really must try and find the Strawberry Kisses too - classic stuff.

E - hee, indeed he is. The shirt sounds awesome! Especially the buckle bit at the top. I'm not sure exactly what the band looks like, can't get a picture of it in my head, but you will show us when you're finished, ja?

T - oh, that's nice! I wish we had a name day now where we get to give silly presents. And about the blow-up doll! Thank god your brother doesn't know about it. Imagine the carnage! We don't get shaped pasta here.

Where is Anna? Haven't seen her for days.

ALL RIGHT PEOPLES! With the advent of a new thread, I have decided it's time to pimp up Placebo a bit, and I introduce...

The Second Round of Who is the Most Beautiful Brian?

Lest we forget, last year's winner was Taste in Men!Bri.

Nominations are open now! Nominate your favourite video Brian! We probably shouldn't include last year's nominees for want of progress, who were (I think):

Pure Morning!Bri
You Don't Care About Us!Bri
Teenage Angst (live)!Bri
Bruise Pristine!Bri

Is that right? There's been a few new videos out since then, so nominate, nominate! Check out www.placebostills.co.uk for inspiration, and official site for viewing the videos online. Lurkers please de-lurk, we really want your input!

Oh my god, EYE CANDY TIME!! *ca-spazzem* Well we all know how I feel about YDCAU!Bri. He's so wounded and small. Erm. I'm a disturbing girl.

Bitter End Bri could be added... he's got some lovely eyeliner. And certainly PM!Bri. I think that's him at his prettiest, maybe. He's just lovely in that. But you know, TIM had a real sexy I want to shag you factor. Which they all do, but more so there.

I'm not very helpful but I'll put more time into it later!

And yes I'll show you the pic of the shirt once done!

Wheeeeeeeee! New thread!! *pets Homogoblin*

Nicky - I was only gone for 4 days, but that's sweet that you noticed . I hate to disappoint you with the same old, predictable reason, as I would much rather say I was bangee-jumping in Hawaii or something like that, but yet again, I was studying, or trying to anyway . And yeah, I was quite devastated about finding only forks, but the question 'who was bored enough to bury forks in a sand box of a kindergaten?' has remained a mystery to me till this very day. And aww! You poor thing That's not a very nice memory, the bleeding head that is . BTW, how is your mouse doing? How old is he already?

T - Sorry I'm late, but happy name's day! That's so cool! So you just celebrate your name? Hee, that's so neat. I wish we had that too. But wait a sec, if there are only 365 days in a year, what happens to people who don't have a name day? That's quite discriminating, isn't it? Or are there only 365 names in Finland and each Fin (sp?) has to be named one of those names so that he'll be able to celebrate his name's day? Okay, this is way too confusing.

And I always want to mention this, but keep forgetting; Everytime you write something in Finnish, I can never read it, I mean I just have no idea how I'm supposed to read it. For example, the Finnish word for bday you wrote in your last post looks like this to me:

As you can obviously see the 7th, 9th and 12th letter is not an English letter! But it's the fifth letter in the hebrew alphabet called "hey" (yeah, like in "hey dude!"). My computer probably isn't capable of understanding whatever it is that you write in the Finnish words, so it always replaces it with a "hey" for some reason, therefore reading the words becomes quite a difficult task for me .

E darling, I knew I can always count on you to provide me with entertainment . Thanks for that, totally cheered me up!

Ummm, so January is summer in Australia? Bummer I might have to reconsider the moving to Australia plan, as I've always loved the fact that my birthday is in the winter, so by moving to Australia, that will pretty much ruin it for me, cause I've never been a fan of anything summer-related. But on the other hand, the vacation factor is quite tempting. So, that is a problem.

Oh, you're so right about not having enough hours in a day! I've always thought that if we had just like another 2-3 hours a day, it would be lovely. Sometimes I just don't get it, how quickly the time goes by. Like yesterday, I started studying at 11 am, and then, I look at the clock and it's already 5 pm! And I was like: Hey! Where did all the hours go? I barely got any studying done! I so hate it when this happens .

Your shirt sounds pretty! Can't wait for pics .

I'm sad I wasn't present during the first round of "Who is the most beautiful Brian?" But oh well. Anyway, my vote goes to PM!Bri, simply gorgeous . Also, 36Degrees!Bri is great and wet .

*Goes back to playing this keep-the-drunk-guy-from-falling game. Is annoyed that the guy refuses to go further than 43 meters .*

Yeah, I kinda like these a lot too - nothing wrong with traditional kind of gifts, but there's always something special about knowing how to pick something that'll make the reciever laugh and plot revenge too of course *lol*.

Oh there's plenty of nude manips of him too I'd imagine - only they're not meant to look hot. More like disturbing . They're all some sort of jokes - themes vary from putting his head on politicians head to those nude shots to just promo pics of him that have been added some text. Like the last one I saw was this. The text means "Shut up or I'll come to your house to sing" which in English is nothng special, but in Finnish the form of the word for singing is *g*. There's just something about using the form of a verb that has that n at the end that makes it sound.. arf, can't exactly describe it, but it the whole sentence sounds sort of whiny - fitting the image that most sane people have of the guy *lol*.

Very, very nice avi

It's a shame most countries don't seem to share the tradition . I know the Swedes have it, we have it, the other Nordic countries probably do too, but beyond that I don't know..

Yeah, uit could get pretty ugly - I might be forced to get him an Antti Tuisku blow-up doll *G*.

Aww

Ooh, lovely to see the competition back . Might the Velvet Goldmine Bri be accepted too? Not a video, but there is a performane.. and the hat is just too adorable *G*.

Thankies . Yeah, I don't actually even know myself why we do it *lol*. Ah, it's not unfair as for example when it's Paula's day, it's also Liina's and Pauliina's and day - Pauli's too I think . So they bunch up similar names. The only ones left out are new names and one that have some from foreign languages, but they add those every once in a while. Though for example my grandma's name, Dagmar, still isn't in the Finnish calendar, but that's hardly a problem when it's in the Swedish one.

Quote:
And I always want to mention this, but keep forgetting; Everytime you write something in Finnish, I can never read it, I mean I just have no idea how I'm supposed to read it. ....
Aww . I didn't know that. The odd letters in bday - and pretty much all that end up looking like the ones in that word I guess - are just As, but with two dots above it. It's pronounced roughly like the A in 'hat'. The other one which might look odd is like o, but with the same two dots above it (testing: ö - what did that look like?). That's pronounced like... er... well, some sites say it's like eu in French if that helps? Then there's the Swedish o which is an a with a small circle above it - that's prounced like o. That's not really a Finnish letter, it's just with the country having two official languages, it has to be in the alphabet too.

Usually when Finnish names are written in English, the two-dot-letters get written as As and Os. Occasinally the first will be 'ae' which results in a lot of hilarity on our part every once in a while *G*. For example Marja-Liisa Hämäläinen was Haemaelaeinen for quite a few years before the tv stations got software that could handle the Scandinavian letters

Hee, I got all into reading one of the sites about Finnish again . Also realised I'm definitely a bit slow . Never thought of this:

Quote:
Since Finnish is agglutinative and inflected, it has a smaller core vocabulary than, for example, English, and uses derivative suffixes to a greater extent. As an example, take the word kirja (a book), from which one can form derivatives kirjain (a letter [of the alphabet]), kirje (a letter [a piece of correspondence]), kirjasto (a library), kirjailija (an author), kirjallisuus (literature), kirjoittaa (to write), kirjoittaja (someone who writes), kirjallinen (something in written form), kirjata (to write down, register, record), kirjasin (a font), and others.
I mean I know the words are all really similar and all, but I guess it's jsut that when it's the language you already learned when you were a kid, you don't question stuff like that too often.. Ski into a c*nt indeed *lol*

ps. that only 10 smilies or whatever it was limit is no good for my babblings *pout*
