piano rock...

I am very obsessed with piano, so I always love piano-rock [pop, too] bands/musicians. I could listen to piano forever because I love the sound of it. And I figured there would probably be other people who like it too cause it's awesome

So anyone else love it as much as me?

I like Muse. They have a fair bit of piano in their rock. And Coldplay, too...

I'd agree about piano in rock music. Muse is amazing.

I love the piano that pops up in Death Cab for Cutie too.

I brought Keane thinking it would be awesome piano pop/rock and was sadly disappointed.

I like Keane a lot. Their music isn't really "rock" but I think it's very pretty.

Let's not forget Ben Folds. And Rufus Wainwright. And Tori Amos.

Tori Amos is brilliant. I'm really loving her cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit at the moment. You think about the song and go, "slow, sad piano cover? WTF?" but it's surprisingly fitting and good.

Some of my favourites are: Ben Folds, Something Corporate, P:ano, Coldplay, Vanessa Carlton, Dana Glover.... ahh there's just sooo many.

I need to check out Tori Amos. What songs are good?

Btw, if you guys want to check out, "P:ano".. I would gladly send you some of their songs. They're a Canadian band.. and they are SO good. Coldplay fans would love them.

That sounds cool Ledi. I wouldn't mind hearing some p:ano songs. Great band name, too. Do you just pronounce it 'piano'? Anyway, PM me.

"Crucify" is my all-time favorite Tori song. Little Earthquakes is by far her best album.

Ooh, I don't know why I didn't mention this piano band earlier, but Copeland is absolutely amazing. Especially songs like "Priceless," "Brightest," and "California. So beautiful.

And if you haven't heard the piano version of Taking Back Sunday's "Your Own Disaster," you are missing out. Download it!

yeah, I love all 3 bands you mentioned, especially Wasking Ashland. they are gooooooood.

I've honestly not heard the new version of the TBS song yet only because I've heard it's bad and I don't want it to ruin the old song for me, but since it has piano, I am going to check it out now.

And thanks for the Tori Amos suggestions. I'm going to try find it seeing as I've always wanted to check her out so I finally will now

Have you guys heard of the Dresden Dolls? I really love them but I'm not sure if you'd like them.. but you can always check them out here

Oh, I've heard a few of their songs on the radio and seen their video for Coin-Operated Boy, they certainly have a very unique sound to them.

Thanks for the link for P:ano, will check them out!

Speaking of Tori Amos, who's always been one of my favourite artists, did you know her biography/autobiography, titled "Piece by Piece" is going to be released in February? Here are some details, in case anyone's interested:

Quote:
From her critically acclaimed 1992 debut Little Earthquakes to the recent smash Scarlet's Walk, Tori Amos has been a formidable force in contemporary music, with one of the most dedicated fan bases around. In Tori Amos: Piece by Piece, the singer herself takes readers beyond the mere facts, explaining the specifics of her creative process - how her songs go from ideas and melodies to recordings and passionately performed concert pieces. Written with acclaimed music journalist Ann Powers, Tori Amos: Piece by Piece is a firsthand account of the most intricate and intimate details of Amos's life as both a private individual and a very public performing musician. In passionate and informative prose, Amos explains how her songs come to her and how she records and then performs them for audiences everywhere, all the while connecting with listeners all over the world and maintaining her own family life (which includes raising a young daughter). But it is also about how Amos uses her music as a medium to express her unique and fascinating personal history; in short, we see the pieces that make up - as Amos puts it - "the woman we call Tori."

With photos taken especially for this book by the acclaimed photographer Loren Haynes, Tori Amos: Piece by Piece is a rare treat for both fans and non-fans alike, an inside look at what it's really like being one of the figureheads of contemporary female music.

TORI AMOS has sold over twelve million albums worldwide. She divides her time between North Cornwall, England, and West Palm Beach, Florida.

ANN POWERS is the senior curator for the Experience Music Project in Seattle. For several years she was also a music critic for The New York Times and The Village Voice. She is the author of Weird Like Us: My Bohemian America (Simon and Schuster, 2000).

Oh, and a rec: Cat Power is a lovely piano-rock band.

I was hesistant at first, too. I didn't think a new version could top the old version they recorded with John and Shaun. I was wrong though. It's amazing. And the addition background vocals and stuff are really good. Let me know what you think.

Oh yes, definitely. I love piano in rock music. In fact, I just love piano full stop!

I've heard of and love most of the songs/artists everyone has mentioned here. Except for Tori Amos' version of Smells Like Teen Spirit. I've heard it, I just don't like it.

Oh, how about the Magnetic Fields. There's piano in some of those songs. Like Very Funny which is an incredibly beautiful song. And I Thought You Were my Boyfriend.

Edit: Ledi I just downloaded Girl Anachronism by Dresden Dolls and...WOW! It's so effin' awesome. It sounds really, really familiar, but I don't know why. But it's amazing. So different.
