'Music Is Worthless Unless It Can Make A Complete Stranger Break Down And Cry'
Well, not really completely useless, but one of the truly great things about music - any form, any genre - is its ability to move us, the listeners. And so that's what this thread is about: how music has moved us. (Whether it made you physically cry doesn't really matter!) This thread isn't about your favourite song - a song that affected you doesn't have to be your favourite song, it can a song that you have stopped loving as much as you did at first, or it could be a song you can't listen to anymore. But just at that one moment when it made you stop because you can't do anything else but listen, and maybe you can't breathe, or maybe you start to cry - these are the stories that I would love to hear from you. So don't be shy, share your stories. I'll be back with mine soon.
FYI, the title comes from a song called 'The Dumbing Down of Love' by Frou Frou, which is a very good song. __________________

This is a great thread idea, Gwen!
Music has moved me plenty of times. Not always to the point of crying (although, close to it many times), but yeah, it's something you feel inside that's part of that moment, when you experience something amazing. It can be happy, or sad, or a bit of both. Lyrics that touch us, combined with beautiful music, can make the hardest heart soften. I'll work on remembering my specific moments/songs, and then I'll come back. __________________

Thanks! Now if only people would reply I know what you mean though - and I liked the way you said music does make the hardest heart soften, because it's true.
Well I'm here with a story. The song is 'Everybody Here Wants You' by Jeff Buckley. What happened is this: I was at Borders and I was listening to Sketches (Borders allows you to play the first 30 seconds of each song) for the first time, and I liked both 'The Sky Is A Landfill' and 'Everybody'. But 'Everybody' was the one I remembered. I got home and I couldn't get the sound of it off my mind - being impressed is to say the least. I downloaded it and the first time I heard it I stopped cold - I was just so completely struck by the song that I couldn't move or think of anything else. And I listened to it over and over and over again that night (annoying my sisters in the process) and for the next few days/weeks I was putting it on repeat and stuff. It's to the point that now, while I like it, it's not one my favourites anymore - the magic has worn off but it's still a good song __________________

I don't think a song has ever made me cry. Apart by The Cure has made me feel a bit sad though.

Seriously? Nothing has made me cry (song-wise). Still, it's good isn't it? that music can affect us all so much.

what i love about music is that it makes me feel that i'm not alone. Like for every mood, it's as if there's this perfect song the goes well with it.!
i know this is really not a great song but i would never forget it. It's called Storm by Lifehouse,.. i was in my room reading letters from my friends who went away for college, one had a mix attached to it and the first song was Storm. I fell completely in love with that song and it made me cry because of the sadness in it w/c mirrored my mood at that very moment. __________________

Storm is an excellent song, IMHO, chiaren.
I just discovered this thread, so do not yell at me. There have been many moments that a song has struck me. One particular moment was actually a song used shortly after 9/11. It was used to show footage and the song with the images made me cry like no other. The song is called "Overcome" by Live. I can still listen to the song and just hearing the lyrics I can get emotional and I do not necessarily have to attach it to those visions from 9/11. That is one particular moment a song really struck me. __________________

I'll contribute to the thread... it's not my story, but the story behind the song "Limousine" by Brand New is absolutely heart wrenching. Background: Lyricist Jesse Lacey wrote it about a seven-year-old girl who was killed by a drunk driver. She and her family were riding home in a limousine from her aunt's wedding. She had been the flower girl. A drunk driver was driving his truck the wrong way and hit the limousine head on (there is video from the limousine's dashboard camera that shows the truck speeding towards them), killing the driver and decapitating the little girl. The girl’s mother used no euphemisms in describing the accident. “As I crawled out of the car, the only thing that was left of Kate was her head,” Mrs. Flynn, 36, said two days after the crash. “And I took her, just like that, and sat on the side of the Meadowbrook and watched at the horrendousness going on around me. I want everybody to know that.” Horrific. Here are lyrics, taken from Brand New's website... "K, here's your ride. Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle Pretend you are God, and grow, And that it's your own day to wed We have found your man. He is drinking up. He's all-American, and he'll drive He has volunteered with grace to end your life. We'll tidy up It's sad to hold, but leave your shell to us You explode, you firefly, you tiny boat with oars, Feather oars The world tilts back and pours and pours And so, you satellite, you tidal wave, You’re a big surprise And I have one more night to be your mother" Her signal was interrupted. My baby's frequency not strong enough Her head in my hands and smiling. K, we will miss you but in time you'll get set up, And we will write" (Curtain) Hey, you beauty supreme. Yeah, you were right about me. But can I get myself out from underneath This guilt that will crush me In the choir, I saw our sad Messiah. He was bored and tired of my laments. He said, "I died for you one time, but never again" Well I love you so much, but do me a favor baby and don’t reply. Cause I can dish it out, but I can't take it. 1234567 I'll never have to buy adjacent plots of earth We'll never have to rot together underneath dirt I'll never have to lose my baby in the crowd I should be laughing right now __________________

I don't think I've ever cried from listening to a song before. I've probably cried from watching a tv show and the song playing through the scene is really intense.
The only song that leaves me kinda dazed has to be Last Kiss- Pearl Jam. Every single lyrics is right on it's insane. When the song was released, it was so eerie because the exact same thing happened to my brother's girlfriend, who I was close with. [Chorus] Oh where oh where can my baby be The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven soI got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world We were out on a date in my daddy's car We hadn't driven very far There in the road straight up ahead A car was stalled the engine was dead I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right I'll never forget the sound that night The screaming tires the busting glass The painful scream that I heard last [Chorus] When I woke up the rain was pouring down There were people standing all around Somethign warm flowing through my eyes But somehow I found my baby that night I lifted her head she looked at me and said Hold me darling just a little while I held her close I kissed her our last kiss I found the love that I knew i have missed Well now she's gone even though I hold her tight I lost my love my life that night [Chorus] __________________
