Music On Internet Radio & Internet Radio Stations Thread

I don't think this type of thread has been opened before. If there is one could please point it out to me? I would appreciate it.

Anyway, this thread is for the discussion of music on internet radio. Here, we can discuss whatever station is keeping your interest at the moment. We can also talk about which MP3 players seem to work best with internet radio, any out-there radio stations, stations that may have gone off-line and you miss, etc., etc..

Right now, I have several MP3s that play internet radio: WMP, Winamp, iTunes, RealPlayer. I don't know if you include Yahoo! Messanger, as it includes a link to Yahoo! Launchcast. You probably know about MSN, Rhapsody, Yahoo! Launchcast, AOL, iTunes and Live365 by now. However, I have been impressed with Winamp, which has Shoutcast. The good thing about Shoutcast is that you can use the MP3 player to pick out the stations you want. You don't need to search for the website to pick the station and, unlike RealPlayer and WMP, you get stations that offer a greater variety of music from different points of the globe.

I don't think I've gone through every station (impossible!). Lately, I've gravitated towards 80s stuff. However, it's not the usual 80s music. More towards alternative/forgotten bands. One station that I like is Radio Nigel. He plays some 80s tunes that I've forgotten existed. Yes, you'd hear Pet Shop Boys, The Cure and Sting. However, he plays some B-sides of Depeche Mode, The Plimsouls, Roxy Music, Oingo Boingo, some interesting XTC stuff, etc. You know, the 80s was more than Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Too bad Pure Obscure Radio couldn't make it financially, as that was another of my favorite stations.

Anyone fans of electronica music? Maybe we can compare and constrast radio stations playing that music.

Haven't been any as far as I know...

I don't mind electronica music - granted, I'm limited to the Kid A/Amnesiac sessions of Radiohead - but yeah. No, I don't listen to internet radio though. I'm sure there are posters out there who do, though.

Anyone ever heard of Pandora? It's a website where you can create your own radio station with just music you like. I think it's quite cool!

Pandora is amazing! They let you try globally but after a few songs, you need to be US citizen. Ugh! Can't wait till they expand it.

That's OK. A lot of people may not know what we're talking about so whatever we say may go through their heads.

I'm now trying Pandora. For some reason, it reminds me a bit of Yahoo! Launchcast, except that in the case of Pandora you have a choice of deciding thumbs up or thumbs down on a particular song. Lauchcast gives you a choice of star points and a "never play again" option. I'll continue listening to Pandora tonight and let you know how that is.

Alternative Flashbacks at 1FM. Wow! Songs I have not heard existed from that era.

About the citizenship thing...wouldn't someone try to get away with just typing a U.S. zip code (it's five numbers - first digit can be from 0 to 9). I don't know how thoroughly they check these, not that I recommend it.

If you're ethically disinclined to do so then OK.

Mostly when I listen to stations that I listen to on the radio (Studio Brussel) but I'm checking out Radio Nigel right now. I'm kind of a sucker for 80's music but had it for a while 'cause they keep on playing the same tunes. Listening to Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now, like you said a song I forgot that exsisted. Nice, very nice
