Melissa Auf der Maur - Rock basist with a great solo debut

www.aufdermaur.com

Former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins basist.

Her album is already out in Europe and will be released in the US in the middle of May.

Her first single in Europe was Followed the Waves (except in France it was the French version of "Taste You"). Her second single in Europe is "Real a lie"
Videos for those can be found on her site.

She is on a European tour right now and will tour the US in May.
She is great live too. I went to her concert a few days ago.

She is from Montreal, Canada and is 32 years old.

Hi Di! Fancy meeting you here.

I like Melissa Auf der Maur. She was cool while she was in Hole and Followed the Waves is one of those songs that get stuck in your head.

I loved her when she was in Hole. I wasn't old enough to understand the musicanship then, but reflecting upon it sheds new light onto Melissa. I haven't heard anything off her solo yet, but I can't wait to hear her voice! She deserves to finally get a share of the spotlight.

I went to her concert she had here on the 17th of April. She was so great.

I listen to her cd all the time. It is so great.

If you want more info on her go to the biggest fansite which is better than her official site www.melissaaufdermaur.org

It is so nice to see you here Nicky. We really do have the same music taste.

I bump this thread to share my wealth:

I met Melissa Saturday!

She did a live acoustic set in my local record store to promote her excellent record. She and her band played Beast of Honor, Skin Reciever, Head Unbound, Followed the Waves, Taste You, and a cover of a Failure song, and it was a great experience to see her up close like that. I've been a fan for years and I got to tell her so when she signed my CD booklet. I was so damn happy that I had to share.

Very sweet and gracious..and candid. ("So there's t-shirts and underwear on the walls here. You all from this neck of the woods?" "This is a song about horses and flesh." heh)
She signed my Auf Der Maur cd cover and spelled my name without me having to spell it for her. Also signed "princess of power!" above my name cause I happened to be wearing my She-Ra tshirt that day. I asked if she still was in touch with any of the guys from Hole or the Pumpkins, and she replied that she still talks to James Iha and Eric Erlandson, but Courtney..ehhhh, not so much. I told her I could relate. We talked about how her band is going on tour with the Cure this summer and how there's too many good concerts this year. (I wasn't about to tell her my concert fund this year is going towards Alanis Morissette and not her.) So, now flustered, I leave happily and forget to pick up a poster. D'oh.

And on a poignant note, I put the signed CD on my Dad's memorial on our coffee table. I know he would have dug it.

Yeah. It really does. It gets me through bad days. And I didn't know what to make of her album at first, but hearing the material acoustic fleshed it out for me and now I just can't stop listening to the thing, lol. Followed the Waves will NOT leave my head! I don't mind.

*bump*

Saw Auf Der Maur do their thing on Conan O'Brien last night. Damn, they were so good. And those amps are seriously as tall as she is. Heavy.

Go buy the album if you haven't already, lurking slackers! Hee.
