The Mars Volta Appreciation

So, I don't know much about this band (except they are somehow related to At The Drive In), and I haven't yet gotten the album, but I am very obsessed with their song Televators right now. Anyone else like The Mars Volta?

Anyone? I bought the album and am so obsessed by the whole thing. Can't wait until the next album comes out... next year, I think.

Hey. I haven't actually ever heard the Mars Volta. But I've been told numerous times that I should.
Any suggestions for a song to download?

Televators is easily the most accessible song, but it's not very representative of the album (De-Loused at the Comatorium) as a whole. The album is quite experimental and conceptual, so you really need to listen to the whole thing to get this organic process going. To get into them, I'd start with Televators, and then perhaps Inertiatic ESP. If you like those two, then you should get the album.

Goody! The vocalist has an absolutely amazing voice, doesn't he? Sooo good.

I read the album review in Q magazine, which I quite liked. I'll type it up soon.

What other bands and artists do you like Andi? Apart from Bright Eyes, and you were the Beatles mod so I assume you like them too.

Um, Led Zeppelin, Weezer, The Used, Good Charlotte, Mest, Finch, Belle and Sebastian, Death Cab for Cutie, Silverchair, Oasis, My Chemical Romance, Poison the Well, Saves the Day, The Postal Service, Beach Boys, The Cure, The Smiths, Morrissey, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run...
That's just a few!

How about you?

I've only heard of them cause Inertiatic ESP was the opening song on Triple J's Hottest 100 album. I loved it, it was so friggen catchy. I'd get it stuck in my head for days and days.

Yay, someone else! Hi JacquiJack. So, was the Triple J album any good?

Andi - hmm, my favourite music people are Placebo, Muse, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Anthesiac, Marilyn Manson, Tom McRae, Björk, Sigor Rós, Mogwai, The Veils... I like Death Cab and Silverchair, like you. I'm only familiar with 90s bands, I keep meaning to get into the older bands, but haven't had enough time nor classic rock education.

Hi!

yeah, I loved it, I keep on listening to it over and over. The only thing I wasn't happy about was having Missy Elliot and CatEmpire on there. But that was just my opinion. It really is great.

I'm obsessed with Death Cab. Erm... yeah. And Sublime. And Placebo. And Mae. And Sugarcult. And Zeppelin. And old Silverchair. And Belle and Sebastian. And Oasis. And South. And I might stop there now, cause I could go on and on.

Placebo!

So have you got the Mars Volta album JacquiJack? You really should! It's brilliant.

I'm just listening to Televators now. It's such a pretty song. And his voice is amazing.

The more you listen to that song, the more addicted you become. Are you a convert yet?

(It has a very sad video, too.)

Still yet to type up the review, but would like to paraphrase a particularly interesting bit from it now:

The premise of De-Loused at the Comatorium is that of a man who tries to commit suicide, fails, and falls into a coma. There, he takes a trip into the deep dark recesses of his soul. When he finally awakes from his coma, cleansed by his spiritual journey, he still chooses to kill himself, and this time succeeds. I'm pretty sure Televators is a representation of the successful suicide attempt.

Hehe, yes, I would say I'm a convert. I should probably pick up the album...when I get all the other CDs I need to get.

Ooh, that sounds cool.

No, not yet. I don't buy albums anymore. I get them... another way. But in a few more days I'm getting the track-list from Amazon.com and getting the songs. Can't wait!
