| John Mayer Appreciation #15: He's a heterosexual lover of rainbows and M5 man love! ![]() This thread is devoted to appreciating 27-year-old Grammy award winning singer/song writer/guitarist extraordinaire, John Mayer. Visit John's official site to learn more about the man and the music. Those who are interested in voting, or have voted already for a John Mayer Board, thanks for your support! We now need you to cast a second vote where it really counts at the Music Artists Poll. Click the link to be transported to the Poll. It will be up for one month as of today (October 1st). We really need your help to secure this board so please cast your vote, and spread the word! Welcome to Wonderland. Population: 33 ![]()
The title, of course, refers to John's rainbow shirt slogan, and some on stage smooching action that was had with several members of Maroon5. Now that John's summer tour is over, our thread opener was left looking a little blank. I can't make banners, and I'm not even going to pretend I can. But I made an attempt to brighten things up a bit (till someone makes a better one, maybe? ). I also made a posters list. Let me know if you don't see your name, and would like to be added! Once we get some album news, I can edit that in too. ![]() ETA: Upcoming dates (thanks to Steph): 9.18.04 - Boston, MA (The FleetCenter) 10.09.04 - Oranjestad, Aruba (Aruba Music Center) Let the John goodness continue! ![]() Kat__________________ I believe the impossible is possible to overcome i believe in miracles born from love in everyone icon by *Evie Last edited by *OvErPrOtEcTeD*; 11-14-2004 at 10:40 AM.

| Thanks for starting the new thread Kat! There are a couple of upcoming dates: 9.18.04 - Boston, MA (The FleetCenter) 10.09.04 - Oranjestad, Aruba (Aruba Music Center) It's a small, piddly list though. __________________ Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake. Thanks for the dates. I'll add them in. Yeah, it barely accounts for a list. But they mean we can look forward to pictures and reviews! ![]() __________________ I believe the impossible is possible to overcome i believe in miracles born from love in everyone icon by *Evie | |||

I'm pleased that the nice, long space between those show dates mean John will have time to continue resting up too, Delise. He sure as hell deserves it. ![]() __________________ I believe the impossible is possible to overcome i believe in miracles born from love in everyone icon by *Evie

| You're brilliant, Kat! I swear. It's about time we got a list of Mayer posters and a banner! Which is awesome, by the way! But what shall we call ourselves, I wonder...? Hmmm..... And the thread title is too funny! ![]() I'm glad he's resting up too, Delise! And I know, these hurricanes are out of control! It hit here and I actually started to think that water was pouring inside of my room! I started to freak out, but thank God there was none. Sorry I haven't posted here in a while, hehe....the only reason why I even got the chance to do so today is because I'm sick, (there's always something wrong, isn't there? ) But I'm getting pampered with whatever I want so for that! I will not neglect this thread no longer, though! See ya later, folks!---Violet __________________ Harry and Hermione. Clark and Chloe. Elizabeth and Darcy. Love. | |||

I thought so too, and thanks, I'm glad you like the banner and title. I'd be open to any suggestions for what we could name ourselves on the posters list. Think about it, and let me know what you come up with. I'll do the same. ![]() So great to see you back again! But sorry to hear it's 'cause you're sick. Hehee, apt use of the violin smilie there! Make sure you milk the pampering for all it's worth. I'm glad the hurricanes didn't hit your area too badly btw! Quote:
Ha, I have that pic as my WP atm actually! Thanks for posting it in honour of our thread title. Gotta love that he appears to be collecting the set. I can't help but wonder if matching HLoR underwear is available too! Great suggestion! I should have thought to slip the request link in, but since I have it in my sig, it tends to slip my mind. Editing it in now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John's latest Esquire article: Esquire, October 2004 This month's lesson: i-Fi The Next Generation of portable speakers look sleek and sexy and sounds like garbage! There’s a new phenomenon in digital audio. I call it i-Fi: portable listening devices lauded for small size and elegant design but seriously lacking in sound quality. Since the wax cylinder was introduced in 1886, each successive listening format has sounded better than its predecessor. Now, 118 years later, the MP3 has broken that streak. And even more troubling, speakers and headphones are getting worse every year. So pull out your permission slips, kids, because we're going on a field trip to the science lab. Speakers rely on the cone (the paper ring that you get a kick out of touching when OutKast comes on) to vibrate back and forth and produce sound frequencies. Treble vibrates faster and less intensely, while bass vibrates slower and deeper, making longer waves. When your speakers are the size of a ten-year-old's nipples, they'll never have the room to do their job, making most low-frequency instruments nearly inaudible. And I thought you loved your bass. If these details didn't matter to people, there'd be nothing to complain about. But details do matter to consumers. They're just the wrong details. I've stood in line in the electronics department and seen a middle-aged housewife and a tech-savvy 20-something ask the same question: "How many megapixels does this camera have?" But they miss the plain fact that with a pea-sized lens, 6 million pixels still give you one huge grainy image. Congruently, the iPod produces CD-quality sound but is most often listened to through uncommonly bad earbuds, which seem to sit most comfortably in the ear of a manta ray. Okay, maybe I’m complaining, taking a hair dryer to a tornado of evolution. Let's go one step further: Music is no being produced with i-Fi as the presumed listening environment. That means that the music is being produced to sound better on a laptop than through full-sized home-stereo speakers, which narrows the sound spectrum and makes everything sound really pointy. Case in point: During the making of my last record, Heavier Things, mixes were auditioned on a laptop, which is invariably where music ends up for most listeners today. But wait, there's one silver lining around the ominous cloud of i-Fi: If you can't hear how great the instruments sound, you'll have nothing to fall back on if the lyrics suck. And that's where I have to put my faith. If you don't care about the sound quality, I won't, either. I'll just spend less time finding the right microphone to go under that snare drum and more time making sure the words mean something. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had no idea how technologically uninformed I was till I read that. But then I suppose being the musician and tech-head that he is, he's bound to be clued in on the latest advancements in speaker sound quality. "Speakers the size of a 10-year-old's nipples". Tehee! ![]() If anyone's interested, an Esquire article scan. (from j-mayer.org ) And a Teen People scan (resized to post 'cause I love the pic): ![]() The original scan can be found at JMeyecandy.com. __________________ I believe the impossible is possible to overcome i believe in miracles born from love in everyone icon by *Evie Last edited by *OvErPrOtEcTeD*; 09-15-2004 at 01:06 PM.

. It's great to be back! I'm starting to feel a bit better, so that's good! Oh yeah, I'm milking the pampering all the way! It's been great to get to chill out for once and have a little "John-time" (I'm watching AGT as I'm typing this ) Thanks! I'm glad too; we're all okay.
