Iron & Wine Appreciation

So, I tried to think of a witty title, but as some on this board know, I'm not very good at titles.

Anyway, I've been listening to Iron & Wine a lot lately and just wanted to see if there were any other fans here to chat with about these lovely songs.

My favorite song at the moment, and it really keeps changing by the moment, is 'Love and Some Verses' from Our Endless Numbered Days, which is probably my favorite of his albums.

Hi Simone no, I always thought your title-making skills were quite OK, actually. I'm sure you'll think of something in no time

I'm not that much an Iron & Wine fan - I'm mainly here to spam you actually () but I do like 'Boy with a Coin' a lot. I remember being obsessed by it at one point in time. I like how it's a bit different-sounding from the usual I&W song.

You're welcome to spam me anytime!

I like 'Boy with a Coin' a lot. It certainly is different from the stuff on Our Endless Numbered Days and The Creek Drank the Cradle, but fits right in with the faster-paced stuff on The Shepherd's Dog. Or Woman King EP, have you heard that?

I've been in a mood lately, but I know Iron & Wine is the kind of band that I'll be really into, and then put to the side for awhile (like The Decemberists, for example). I definitely have to be in the mood for a certain type of music when I listen to them. But I just love his lyrics. (Hence my sig being from his song 'Faded From The Winter'). I think he's a really great songwriter.

No, I don't have full I&W albums, just random songs here and there.

Oh, so that's from a song! I thought it was a line from a book or something. It's lovely. I love his album titles as well - [i]The Creek Drank The Cradle[/b], Our Endless Numbered Days? They're so pretty. I used the latter as the title of a Facebook photo album (my random collection of photos) and I was complimented on the title. Heh.

Yeah you're right about the comparison, I&W are like The Decemberists in that you can't listen to them that often, but when you do it's a better experience because you've had time to miss them. Or so I feel anyway. You most certainly have to be in a mood for I&W

I'm definitely an Iron & Wine fan. I got Iron & Wine & Calexico's EP last month, and it's freaking stunning. Shephard's Dog is great too, but that's about the extent of my Iron & Wine collection currently, unfortunately, I only got into I&W earlier this year. But I do love me some I&W.

I've heard great things about the Calexico/IW collab but I've yet to hear it. I just got two of their albums, so I'm set on buying Iron & Wine stuff for a bit now.

I really recommend the I&W w/ Calexico EP, all 7 songs are great, and they all get better with every listen, it's just great. I would say next time you feel the need for new I&W, go for In The Reins.

Like Gwen, I'm not actually a fan of I&W, but I do like a few songs. I haven't got any complete albums either, only random songs. I think my favourites are 'Love And Some Verses', 'Naked As We Came' and his cover of The Postal Service's 'Such Great Heights'.

I enjoy listening to his music. I haven't bought his other cds except for Our Endless Numbered Days.

Oh Iron and Wine are fantastic. "The Sea and the Rhythm" is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Samuel is such a wonderful lyricist.

The Creek Drank the Cradle is one of my favorite albums that I own.

And "Naked As We Came" is a song that I cry after I listen to it. Iron and Wine makes me so emotional. I was so sad that I couldn't see them on this latest tour. Stupid education got in the way. WTH, I know.

I've only heard Passing afternoon so far, and it's one of my favourite songs. The lyrics are amazing, and the voice

This band is awesome. Got "Flightless Bird American Mouth" on heavy rotation Love "Boy with a Coin" and "Free Until They Cut Me Down". Totally agree with you about his voice, like silk.

I love Iron & Wine. My favorite song is Evening on the Ground (Lilith's Song) but I also like Boy with a Coin, Flightless Bird American Mouth, and Jezebel a lot too.

Does anyone know of similar artists?
