| Interpol - Not your International Police Well, some chatter started over at the Snow Patrol thread, so I thought to myself, why not start an Interpol Appreciation Thread? If you are a fan of Interpol, or even like any of their singles, holler ![]() So to get this thread fired up, what are your favorite songs and/or albums? Mine would have to be "A Time to Be So Small", "Leif Erikson" and "Hands Away". As for their b-sides...I really, really love "Precipitate" As for album, that's an easy one...Turn on the Bright Lights, without a doubt ![]() __________________ -Dayana just because i couldn't say it doesn't make me a liar Last edited by fifteenminutesold; 08-24-2006 at 11:43 AM. | |||

| I'd have to say I like Antics more. They get a lot of heat for Antics because a lot of people say it's more of the same, but there are subtle differences in the music...they're there for everyone to discover... They never could've written such catchy basslines for TOtBR. Antics has a more resounding rhythm section...the band itself says so, and I quite agree. I'm rhythm section kinda girl. ![]() __________________ "It is aneurysm inducing logic that will surely leave me dead in my bathtub." -Ain't It Cool News on the HBP film. | |||

| I don't own either album, haven't heard them actually - I only have a few songs. But the ones I have - 'Stella', 'Evil', 'Slow Hands', 'Obstacle 1', 'Specialist' and 'Public Pervert' - I like 'Evil' is so addictive. So is 'Slow Hands' and lyrically - 'Stella'.__________________ go easy on me, I can't help what I'm doing | icon | |||

| Ahh...in my opinion Public Pervert has the best lyrics. And it's so amazing, the way it grows as the song moves on... ![]() They make me feel...strange...I can't explain it. ![]() __________________ "It is aneurysm inducing logic that will surely leave me dead in my bathtub." -Ain't It Cool News on the HBP film. | |||

| Ooh, love Interpol. First heard Evil on Grey's Anatomy and so I got both their albums. I'd say I like Antics better. I really love the song Slow Hands. It's probably my favourite as of the late. ![]() __________________ even if things end up a bit too heavy | |||

And Steph, strangely enough, 'Public Pervert' is the one track that hasn't made so much of an impact on me. Not yet, maybe. __________________ go easy on me, I can't help what I'm doing | icon

| Wow, I can't believe this thread was completely abandoned all during the release of 'Our Love to Admire' and the tour last year. That makes me sad! I saw them live last summer for my birthday. It was magical. Even though I don't like OLTA as much as TOTBL or Antics all together, I really like the album and the songs transferred so well live. And 'Evil' and 'Stella' are still the most crowd pleasing songs they play. But my personal favorite has to be 'NYC.' I love bringing dead threads back to life. ![]() __________________ | |||

| I have Antics and Our Love to Admire. ![]() I only own Obstacle 1 from Turn on the.... I just happen to like them a lot. My fave song would be 'Evil' and 'Mammoth' from their last album. But 'No I in Threesome' is awesome too. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| I love 'No I in Threesome' I only recently got Our Love To Admire actually so I can't comment on the other songs yet ![]() I do love Turn on the Bright Lights so much more than Antics though. 'Take You On A Cruise' and 'PDA' are a couple of my favourites actually. __________________ and yet, he's still strangely attractive | |||

| Seriously, do we all like the same bands? We're freaking everywhere LMAO. Wicked. ![]() I have to download Turn on the Bright Lights ASAP. One of the things why they've been criticized is that on Our Love to Admire (OLTA from now on ) they've kind of sell themselves to the industry or that they've become more mainstream, and they might have a point. But I think the quality of the songs hasn't decreased, I understand why they would want to reach to more people. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

![]() I'm just having a second listen to OLTA, see if I can detect this dreaded 'mainstream' quality. Honestly, I get so annoyed when bands are criticised for that - it's hardly their fault if they write some good tunes that get more popular. I do understand it's different if they write radio-friendly songs on purpose though. I just can't see how Interpol could ever fit into that category ![]() __________________ and yet, he's still strangely attractive

| Maybe the problem with OLTA is that it's less dark than their previous albums. It's still interpol but it has more production, and you can sense that the record has costed more than Antics, which is more hand-made so to speak. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| I was so happy when OLTA came out last year that Paul hadn't changed at all how he writes songs. I'm sure there was some pressure to actually make sense, since one of the main things he is criticized about is how his lyrics have no meaning (which I love about him, by the by). And on OLTA, most of the lyrics are still pretty screwy. The one criticism I hate the most that Interpol gets is the dreaded "They are a Joy Division knockoff" comment. I'm only semi into Joy Division, but Interpol has always been just so much more enjoyable for me. And Carlos D and Daniel really craft much catchier songs. I get the comparison since both are dark, but they aren't the same band. Seriously, TOTBL changed my life and indie rock. Interpol don't get enough credit. So yeah, josebajm, you need to download TOTBL now (I hope you have). It's my number one album evah (I'm a little intense on the Interpol love, if you can't tell). But back to OLTA, I don't know if I'd consider it less dark. The songs might be a bit more radio friendly in sound (even though I don't know how you get much more radio friendly than Evil or Slow Hands, which were on Antics) but the lyrics are still freaky dark. My problem with OLTA and why it falls below Antics and TOTBL is that the songs are less consistent. There are a few songs on the album I won't even listen to (the awful Wrecking Ball). But I love it because it produced one of their most forward, creative songs, 'Lighthouse.' It's such a brilliant song. And 'No I In Threesome' is one of the best songs they've ever done, ITA. And yay for PDA love! The guitar solo starting at 3:10 is magnificent. Even JT stole it. You know you've made it when JT rips you off. Daniel is a God. And I just love the line "You're so cute when you're frustrated, dear" so freaking much.__________________ | |||

| I only have Antics and OLTA. But yeah I think you have a point when you say OLTA has the least memorable songs. I don't listen to Wrecking Ball either, and I honestly don't like 'The Lighthouse' either. But as an overall I think it's perfect. And I so so like the cover art, with the gazelle and the leopards trying to hunt her.About the lyrics, yeah they don't make sense most of the time. Although I do like the ones of 'Pace Is the Trick'. They talk about giving a chance to a lover right. I find the lyrics 'Now I select you, so that I let you see how I stun' really really good. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| The cover art is so freaking awesome for OLTA. It was a nice change from the simple black and red colors on their previous two albums. A song I dislike more than Wrecking Ball is probably 'Who Do You Think?' I listened to the album today actually and while neither song is that fantastic, they do have pieces that 'save' them, of sorts. But it's like the first six tracks are great, then it is hit or miss until the end. I figured 'The Lighthouse' is a love it or hate it track. It's just so different from anything they've ever done that I was immediately taken with it. For awhile it was my favorite thing on the album, although 'Pioneer to the Falls' is an incredible opener, definitely a step up from 'Next Exit.' 'Pace is the Trick' reminds me a lot of 'Take You On A Cruise' melody wise and lyrically. I also really like the line "I've seen love and I follow the speed of the starlight." I think Paul does deal with love or relationships or hating on women in general with his songs but they always have that weird line. I remember reading an article on the ten worst lines from TOTBL that really made me laugh cause some of the stuff he writes is so awesomely bad. But he does say don't read too much into the lyrics, so at least he is honest. Here is the article if you want to check it out. I actually like a lot of the lyrics. Top Ten Worst Lines on Interpol’s First Album - Staff Top 10 - Stylus Magazine I've read a lot of interpretations of 'Pace' all the way from a man who has been scorned by women to a man bragging about how good he is in bed (that one made me laugh a lot). But my favorite line on the album might be "I made you and now I take you back" from 'The Scale.' It's so freaking brutal. __________________ | |||
