Sweet.

One of songs should be "The Great Escape" by We Are Scientists. It's from like last year, but it's been stuck in my head all day.

Does anybody know/like GoodBooks? I've heard two songs of them on the indie playlist, and I liek them both, esp. Passchendaele. I've been wondering what else of theirs I should listen to.

I only have one band in mind which I'll definitely choose a song by, but I still don't know which song I'll choose
Save your 3 songs for Wednesday, you guys

chandelier2, I would explain how Copeland sounds like, but I think Gwen will do it a lot better than me, since she's such a fan of them

fetch, I have an album by The Goodbooks and it's cool. I didn't like it that much, but if you really liked "Passchendaele", you should get their CD

Well from what many described the first two albums, Beneath the Medicine Tree and In Motion, have more of a pop-emo sound quality to their music. It's really a hard sound to classify. It's not even those two genres. It's more than that. So it's best as a new listener to start off with those two albums. Their newest cd, Eat.Sleep.Repeat., is more instrumental.

The band is definitely worth a listen. When compared with other bands, they are closely related with Mae and Anberlin.

The suggested track to listen to first is "Pin Your Wings". Yea, Gwen probably could explain it much better than I could.

But I suck and I don't know how to describe Copeland either, you have to listen to them to know... they're mid-tempo to a bit loud, they're rock but some of their songs are piano-driven. Yeah they're a bit emo but it's not the stereotypical 'I hate the world and I want to kill myself'/hair covering face kind of emo. Gosh, this is hard. Alright. This is their MySpace and this is the direct link to their official site. I don't like the songs there, though - not that they're bad, but that they're not the ones I would have recommended. If you want, download their Beneath Medicine Tree and In Motion albums.

Incidentally, I like both Mae and Anberlin. Anberlin and Copeland are good friends, I saw both of them in concert. They were very good but anyway.

Can we have 5 songs instead of 3? And oh, can you indicate if you're taking part in this CD thing? And be prepared to upload your choices to share (so we can have a vote) - I think I'll need to organise this better. Hmm. I'll post tomorrow.

Thanks for listing everyone who said they'll take part, chandelier2

Not, not at all! I think that only one of my songs will be from this century I'll probably recommend songs from the 90's, from the 80's and maybe even from the 60's! Yeah, I really like old stuff

By the way, as soon as we finish selecting all the songs(how many songs do you guys think it should have? 12-ish? ) and come up with a title(is there going to be a title?) for the CD, I'll start working on the cover

Oh and I'm adding the previous thread to our first post. Sorry I forgot to do that before.

it should definitely have a title. who knows, this may be the first of many! don't ask me to come up with one tho, my mix cds always have stupid titles - like i made one for my fiance a couple of summers ago called "your popsicle's melting" after the line in beck's que onda guero

They can be any song, provided it's indie.

Alright, I've thought about it and this is what I've come up with, process-wise. If you see any potential problems or have a better idea just let me know.

There are five of us, right, and five songs each? That makes 25 songs altogether. I'm thinking of an album of 15 songs (3 from each person), with the option of expanding up to 20 if our songs are really so incredibly good that they HAVE to be included so tomorrow everybody will post their songs here. Then we have an order:

Quote:
chandelier2
David
goodnightboy
oywidapoodles
fetch
Because we're not allowed to post links directly (although that would be so much easier, sigh) we'll review the songs in that order. So chandelier2, your songs will go first: you'll PM us links for all five songs on Wednesday, we'll listen, come back on Friday and post the three songs you want on the album. So if everybody comes online and posts on Friday, by Saturday we'll have 4 people's 3 songs (chandelier2 would abstain). The songs with the most votes gets in, if there's a tie we'll vote. I hope all of this will be resolved by Sunday, so that on Monday, the next person (David) will PM everybody his songs and on Wednesday we'll reconvene. So it's two days to listen to the songs, three days to vote, the day after the next person goes. Does that make sense? I realise it might not, because it's very wordy, so here's a timeline:

Wednesday, 8 Aug - everybody posts their songs. chandelier2 PMs everybody her songs.
Thursday, 9 Aug - listen to songs
Friday, 10 Aug - everybody posts the top 3.
Saturday, 11 Aug - settle which songs get into the album and which don't, if there's a tie we'll vote for the one we want
Sunday, 12 Aug - same as Saturday, if everything's done then this is a quiet day
Monday, 13 Aug - David PMs his songs
Wednesday, 15 Aug - post top 3
Thursday, Friday (16, 17) - voting
Saturday, 18 Aug - I PM you guys.
etc, etc.

(I'm doing it person by person because I figure it's easier to handle 5 songs at a time than 25, although I realise that this is a lot more confusing). I have an important note: if, for example, you absolutely hate my choices and you only can think of 1 song of mine you like, then post 1 song, not 3 (don't force yourself, in other words). If we don't have 15 by the time the rounds are finished we'll go back and pick another song from anybody. And if the opposite happens and you have to have 4 songs... ugh, my head spins. Try to keep it to 3, ok? I haven't thought about 4 songs yet.

Does this make sense? We'll make it up as we go along, but that's the basic idea. I'll remind you guys when to PM/vote/who's next, so it shouldn't be a problem. Of course, I reiterate, if you've got a better idea please let me konw. I forsee a bit of confusion for this one. As for titles, well, if you can think of any that'd be awesome. Just post.

Ooooh, choosing 5 songs is going to be difficult. It's a good thing I'm last on the last, so I'll have time to see what you guys suggest. I think we should have a mix of loud and quiet songs, and I'll try and choose from bands that haven't been included by the time I get around.
