Hope no one minds me starting the new thread. We needed one, so yeah.

I got what you meant. But to me, that song wouldn't completely be the same without the lyric. You can't take the lyrics in the literal sense though. It's like you have to think outside the box Like in the lyric you stated, it's just a metaphor for something completely different. Someone has seen something or done something and it was bad/horrible and you should be weary to not do it again. You know what I mean? Yeah, they could of stated it a different way, but I think this fits well with the band. I don't see how they could have done it anyother way.

That's exactly what I mean. I know they're not talking about the literal meaning of the sentence, but as you said thewy could have stated it in a different way. I know it's just me but that sentence spoils the song for me. In my opinion in another album they would have said a different sentence.

I don't know..maybe more complicated to see that it's obvious they're not talking about sharks and water. Because when you listen the song you know that sentence doesn't fit in there so it has to mean something, but I would have liked if they didn't use the water metaphor and had used something different instead.

But as I said, that's just me.

About Drive...it sounds weird, because almost everyone I know who likes Incubus says that Drive is or was one of their fav songs from them...but I honestly didn't like it that much at the beginning...and it hasn't changed now. I mean...I do like Drive, i love the lyrics..there are no sharks in there..(joking ) but It's not as if it was one of those songs that i NEEDED to hear everyday before doing anything else.


To me it was Make Yourself all the way, and I heard that song so much that now if I hear it i'm a little tired of it.

-cris-, I completely agree with you about how A Crow... isn't as good as Make Yourself by far. It isn't even just the lyrics; I think all of it really came together in Make Yourself, the guitars (Mike is awesome), the bass (I could actually separate it from the rest of the music unlike pretty much every other band out there), the drums (and it wasn't all blah and boring), the cool turntable noises... it all comes together. With A Crow... it is obviously more experimental but it comes out sounding more popish. Maybe the guys just had more to say before and now they're just playing around and waiting until they get that flow going again. Make Yourself will still be my favorite album ever; I could listen to it on a constant loop and never get tired of it and still be amazed by how poetic they are/were.

I'll always love Drive. I really liked it when I got my cd after I found out who Pardon Me was by. There are certain songs that remind me of water; they're refreshing and cool but they never get old. That is how Drive is to me. The same goes with Wish You Were Here. The lyrics aren't hugely inspiring but I think that is the whole point; when you're out on the beach in wonder of how beautiful the world can be, you're never going to get it right. There is no way to describe something like that so you've got to do the humanly imperfect thing. I think that is what the song is about, serenity and awe. In a way I compare it to the song 3x5 by John Mayer. They're both really pretty songs about wishing someone else could share the joys of life with you.

To me, the most played out song was Warning and the funny thing was, I didn't even hear it that much. It just got sick of it really quickly.

It's not really the lyrics that I don't like about Wish You Were Here, they are actually very inspiring. I don't even know what it is about that song, it just rubs me the wrong way...maybe it's that everything all put together doesn't do it for me. The elements of the song like bass, guitar, drums, turntables, lyrics, vocals and so on....they just seem like they are too poppy, too catchy almost. It sound to much like a generic pop-rock song, and I expected so much more from them. It also didn't help that it was so over played on the radio and the original video was banned from MTV (that was my favorite video, btw, so it just made it worse for me). I still like it to some extent though.

But Maliejandra, I agree with you about 3x5 by John Mayer and Wish You Were Here. They do both have beautiful messages, basically experience life for yourself, enjoy it with the people you care about and don't rely on others to live for you.

Oooh, good discussion topic- videos! (There are the ones I've seen; it sucks having no cable.)

Take Me To Your Leader- I think this one is very funny and well suited to such a bizzare song. The cheesy acting only makes it funnier.

Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)- This to me doesn't really constitute as a music video. It might be interesting if you were high watching it but other than that, it is stupid.

A Certain Shade of Green- This one is weird too. I like the scenes where they show them onstage but the naked guys running around with some guy in a spacesuit- that is just weird.

Pardon Me- I love this video! I love how they incorperated Chuck into it and how everything is grey with that cool looking fake fire. It's really one of their best videos I think.

Stellar- Nope; don't like it. Stellar to me needed to be kind of magenta or something and I wanted to see Brandon and some chick sitting on the moon watching the earth. The song is so romantic but I don't think that came across in the video.

Drive- Very cool, I love how the room they're in is kind of art decoish and brown and blue, my two favorite colors. Everything is so warm and inviting in it. Also the drawing thing I thought was very cool because the guys love to draw so it kind of let them express many facets of themselves.

Wish You Were Here- I don't think it fit what my idea of it is. I picture Brandon doing the Scott Stapp kind of open shirt with the wind blowing it behind him with his arms out standing in the surf. Then for the part when he's singing about night, I figured it'd be the guys around a campfire or something on the beach looking up at the stars and then the chorus would be back to the ocean. I didn't like the idea of them being chased by fans; it seemed like the easy way out to me. I did like the underwater things though; that was cool.

I think the only other ones are Warning, Nice To Know You, Are You In?, Talk Shows on Mute, and Megalomaniac.

Yeah! Maybe that's the world I wanted to use. To me saying "if you let them make you they make you papier-mache at a distance you're strong until the wind comes then you crumble and blow away" it's so much more poetic, deep, touching or whathever than the sentence of the shark. (Yeah you can tell I've never liked that sentence )

It's not that I hate Wish you were here but I agree that it's not their best song and of course, it's not my favourite. When i listen to it the whole "i wish you were here" meaning it's not something I can relate to it, because well...I have noone to wish he was there. And I hate the beach so..yeah. But I guess that i'll find it amusing in a distant future. Or who knows, maybe i'll be alone for the rest of my life

I have no song that was over played on the radio. 1rst because I don't listen to the radio and 2nd because the tv-shows I watch...they only know who Avril Lavigne and Black eyed peas are. Don't say Incubus.

And to me, the worst song is I miss you. Yeah I can't really stand Here in My Room, or I couldn't because when I saw it live something clicked on me, but I miss you is just ugly to me. Besides, it has no drums, I need drums.

Videos! That's cool.

I just love Summer Romance, it's one of my top 10 of songs (If I had a top 10).

My fav videos are Talk Shows on Mute and Wish you were here and warning...oh don't forget Are you in? I laugh my ass off everytime I see it. I just love the fact that the guys don't look at the camera as if they were trying to sell us something, making silly faces and such. I like it that almost in ever video they're just on the stage singing, showing how they are, saying "hey, we're a band, we're not Brandon Boyd's ego". I mean, sorry I don't want to be disrespectful but some bands are just about the lead singer, and taking into account that Brandon is so hot, some people might think that at Incubus everything that matters it's him and with their videos they just show the contrary. Incubus is A BAND, and I love how they make that clear. I can understand Brandon is the main character if the video tells a little story (like in Pardon Me), but I would be REALLY dissapointed if a video was ever about just one of them.

Aww, that is so sad. You'll find someone eventually and maybe the song will mean more to you. But it is blasphemy that you hate the ocean!
Maybe you'll like I Miss You and Here in My Room more if you've got someone to associate them with. Or just if you fall in love then you can appriciate it more in others. I dunno.

Speaking of I Miss You, I forgot about the video. I think it is cool that it is night driving; listening to Stellar at night on a road trip is heavenly. I think they chose the wrong song for the video though. And maybe it shouldn't all be night driving; it might be nice to add the band playing in there.

I like that it isn't all about Brandon. I personally don't think he's attractive at all so it annoys me when people make him out to be. Also, it is really great that they make a valid attempt to show off the whole band and not just the singer.

But Maliejandra, you dont think brandon is hot? i think he is gorgeous!!! and oh yes Make Yourself is one of their best songs and is probably one of the best albums ever, like you all say its more poetic and deeper, i guess it kinda relates to me (if that doesnt sound cheesy )

Nah, I can gladly say i'm someone solitare, and I've never been someone so romantic so maybe if I was in love I wouldn't like I miss You a lot. I'm not into love songs at all, and eventhough it might seem that it is because i have no boyfriend, it's just because I've always been like this. But who knows, maybe you're right and when I find someone I love I miss You with all my soul, it could happen.

(Of course I always enjoy some cheesy movie....that's normal, i'm human).

About the ocean...yeah, more than the ocen itself what I hate is the sand, and the sweating, and the hotness that the "beach" means to me. Besides, i'm really white and there was this summer when I was so sun-burnt (sp??) that i fainted in a train. That was a bad experience


exactly. I do find Brandon attractive...I mean...Brandon is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, but I don't like it when people judges the band just for that. As if he chose to be like that...what does people want? Do they want Brandon to put a mask and pretend he's the ugliest boy on earth?

Everything you guys have said is almost everything I would say and I don't even know where to jump into the discussion.

I would have to agree with some people and say that Make Yourself is my favorite album. It's an album where I can connect with almost every song. The lyrics are beautiful and sometimes poetic and everything just flows right. Some of my most favorite songs are from that album. It's an album that I can listen to anytime either when i'm relaxing or need to be cheered up. Morning View is also a good album but it lacked the power that Make Yourself had.

With ACLOTM, I love it but yet I don't connect with it. I feel like everything is experimental and there's too many things going on at once. I don't really know if i'm making sense but that's how I feel.

As for favorite videos, I really love Warning because of how apocalyptic it feels. I don't necessarily like the song that much but the video is nice. Megalomaniac will always be a favorite because visually, it is stunning. Take me to your Leader is a video that always makes me laugh because it's a reference to a movie I really like.

I wouldn't judge a band because of its lead singer or any of its member because I find them attractive. I mostly judge the music they make. To me, everyone in incubus is equally talented and them having a good looking member here and there is just an added bonus to an already amazing band.

that pretty much how i feel towards that album. just recently i told a friend/incubus 'r (who hasnt heard ACLOTM yet) that when she listens to it, that it will be good but not incubus good. ACLOTM is no Make Yourself/Morning View, but its good. i found it to be more...emo? like not as hard as their other stuff (M.Y/science)
