Dixie Chicks Song Quote of the Week:

I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

I DC! NRTMN, the song and vid, is brilliant! Take that DC bashers! Sucks that I don't have TTLW yet, it's supposed to be already available where I'm at but I haven't seen it yet I have Home and it's a fantastic album. These girls are just amazing musicians and imo Natalie has got one of the best contemporary female voices regardless of music genre Here's hoping there's more Chicks music on the shelves when I pass by the music store later...

Thanks so much for starting a DC thread! They have been my favorite band for as long as I can remember.

Whats your favorite Dixie Chicks song?
Voice Inside My Head, Easy Silence, Top of the World, Wide Open Spaces

Whats your favorite Dixie Chicks album?
Taking the Long Way

Have you ever been to a Dixie Chicks concert? What was it like?
Yes! I went a few years ago during their Top of the World tour. It was the best concert I ever went to. They have such a stage presence and sound beautiful live. I'm planning on going to see them on the Accidents and Accusations tour.

How's the "Accidents and Accusations Tour" going so far? I wanna go to a show but no way in my lifetime they'll come here, Asia just isn't a hotbed for country music... Even if they've by and large severed ties with the country establishment, they're still considered by many as a country act. Unless I get lucky and get to travel in the near future Oh well, I've got to be content having seen TOTW on TV once before and seeing clips @ http://www.chicksrockchicksrule.com/video_index.htm for now

I just recently disocvered the Dixie Chicks when i bought their newest album, Taking The Long Way. Country music on the whole is not a popular genre here in the UK so i was very lucky to come across it. My favourite songs would have to be Not Ready To Make Nice, Easy Silence, Everybody Knows, Silent House and Bitter End. I think they're a brilliant group and i'm glad someone has finally started a thread for them.

Dixie Chicks documentary could be election issue
Tuesday August 22 9:29 AM ET

The politically charged documentary "Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing" has been picked up for worldwide distribution by the Weinstein Co.

A release is tentatively scheduled for the fall, possibly right before the November elections.

The film revolves around the aftermath of singer Natalie Maines' statement at a 2003 London concert, where she said, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

It chronicles death threats, political attacks and radio boycotts against the country trio, and that could make the film a political hot potato as well as potential ammo should longtime Democratic party supporter Harvey Weinstein become involved in the fall political campaigns.

Asked why she and co-director/producer Barbara Kopple chose to go with the Weinstein Co., Cecilia Peck said, "They made a great offer," though no figures were disclosed. Such companies as Focus Features and Picturehouse expressed interest in the documentary a few months ago.

Sources involved in the negotiations said some parties in the documentary's camp wanted to screen the entire film for several indie distributors, while others only wanted a 15-minute highlight reel to be shown. Eventually only two final bidders were allowed to see a complete rough cut of the film: the Weinstein Co. and Sony Pictures Classics, a sister company of the Dixie Chicks' Columbia Records label.

"I am extremely proud to be associated with this film because it's not only an outstanding and creative piece of work, but it also exposes our responsibility as Americans to confront our fundamental right to freedom of speech," Weinstein said.

Kopple said plans for a grassroots promotional campaign are still being discussed, and Peck said the film is likely to be a hot topic in the approaching elections. "It deals with freedom of speech, censorship and other important issues," Kopple said. "It looks at the cost of standing up for what you believe in."

The documentary still is being completed ahead of its world premiere at next month's Toronto International Film Festival.

In addition to chronicling the lives of Maines and bandmates Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, Kopple said the documentary features clips from 15 of the Dixie Chicks songs and a new one written especially for the film, though no soundtrack is planned. "You definitely feel like you're in the front row of a Dixie Chicks concert," Peck said.

^^ I hope the docu's well done. It'll be interesting how the film will be received with the elections coming up in the States It's a foregone conclusion that the Chicks have become a political band, I just hope that people (with the same ideologies & with differing opinions) won't forget how great they are from a musical standpoint.

Living here's ok, you've got the usual perks and hassles of urban living ( I live in Manila) The food's awesome, Filipino food is great and I've got Chinese heritage so there's that too, I'm gastronomically lucky lol! There's a lot of cool places in the region I'd love to visit (further south in my country, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong) so I guess I'd better start saving up 'cause that's hella expensive unless somebody would like to sponsor

[QUOTE=in kaos;11597652]How's the "Accidents and Accusations Tour" going so far? QUOTE]

It's doing great in some areas and really poorly in others. I know they've added dates in some cities and they are doing a lot of shows in Canada. They pushed back many September dates to November (including mine).

I can't wait for the documentry to come out. I read a review of someone who went to a test screening and they really enjoyed it and thought it was well done.

Yeah, I went to a DC board after I posted my question to snoop (lol!) and found out about the AAA reschedulings. Someone commented that if you mark the tourdates on the map, most of it will be on the fringes of the US with practically no midwest dates. It's a bummer that the never ending backlash rears its ugly head again
