Depeche Mode Tour Selling Out

As fans in America wait for news about on-sale dates for Depeche Mode's upcoming six-week, 25-date U.S. trek launching in late October, the news from overseas about ticket demand there is staggering. In fact, over 350,000 tickets for the iconic band’s Winter 2006 European Tour have sold in little over a week—seven months before the first show commences.

Despite a nearly five-year absence from touring, promoters in all overseas markets are reporting vigorous ticket sales, with sell-outs coming sooner than expected. Tickets for 14 arena shows in Germany were completely gone after the opening weekend, leading to the addition of second shows in Hamburg and Munich, as well as a second show at the 50,000 capacity Düsseldorf LTU Arena. Traditionally slow markets—such as Spain—also caught the Depeche Mode fire, with Barcelona’s 18,000 capacity Palau St Jordi and Madrid’s new 16,000 capacity Palacio Deportes selling out in a single day, triggering second shows to be added in each city.

Depeche Mode's manager Jonathan Kessler says, “We expected shows to sell well, but the demand for tickets for this tour has been astonishing. The band last toured in 2001 to support the Exciter album, and to see them come back so strong underlines that Depeche Mode's popularity has not diminished, but in fact has become stronger than ever. This is months before the release of the first single in August and the album in October.”

The band’s 55 European dates span a host of countries including Germany, England, Switzerland, Poland, France and Italy. The tour starts in Dresden on January 13, 2006, finishing with the opening shows of the new Wembley Arena on April 2 and 3, 2006. The band last toured in 2001, playing an incredible 85 shows to nearly two million people.

Depeche Mode single leaked online on purpose?

The new single from Depeche Mode, "Precious", is out on the online streets. Since last night the track and an unedited version of the video have quickly spread in the close circle of Depeche Mode fans worldwide. Side-Line contacted one of the maintainers of a server offering the track late yesterday evening, he told Side-Line: "So far we have had over 11.000 requests for the track and it looks like it is going up very fast every minute." Asked where the track got leaked from, he said: "All looks like the leaks came from people from the band's label seeing the quality of the leaked material, especially the video. And if there was any doubt, the speed of how this download got 'known' to the outside world just convinces me even more that this is a promo stunt. Most sources online were fed almost simultaneously, a fan would have a daytime job doing this..." The track is the first single to be taken from the upcoming Depeche Mode album, "Playing The Angel", to be released on October 17th and lets us hear a Depeche Mode that has improved tremendously soundwise compared to the rather disappointing "Exciter" album. If it can be compared with previous Depeche Mode material, one should say a mix between "Ultra" and "Violator", at least for this first track. For those wanting to read the lyrics, check this thread. Unfinished "Precious" video leaked

The forthcoming single from Depeche Mode, "Precious", leaked onto the web last night. The website of Q Film, the company producing the video, presumably by accident, put up the video on what was supposed to be a secure portion of their website. Apparantly some fan got wind of this, found the link and posted in on a Depeche Mode fan forum.

Q Film quickly removed the file, but too late it seems, as the new single, along with the unfinished video now seems to be heavily circulated amongst fans.

The track is the first single to be taken from the upcoming Depeche Mode album, "Playing The Angel", to be released on October 17th. According to Side-Line.com, it can be compared with previous Depeche Mode material, one should say a mix between "Ultra" and "Violator", at least for this first track.
