| Björk #1: Her Music, It Saved Our Lives I can't believe she hasn't got her own thread yet. I love her and everything she does, I discovered her with Vespertine, I had heard some songs before and I always thought they were kinda strange and I really didn't pay her that much attention. But I really liked Hidden Place and I bought Vespertine, and I freaked out with the songs. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me Last edited by josebajm; 05-25-2008 at 09:04 AM. | |||

| Björk is cool. I only heard a few songs by her, though. I'm adding this thread to the board guide ![]() __________________ "Grace is what matters. | Oh Bjork, I thought of creating a thread for her once, thanks! I have every album from her, I can't tell which one is my favorite. They are so different from one another! Maybe Homogenic, since there's my favorite one on it: Jorgê. The cords on this one are amazing, and I love the line "and you pushed me up to this state of emergency." ![]() I went to her concert over the summer! Despite the overcrowded place and my not so big height, it was amazing. She's so cute on stage, she never stops moving. Suprisingly enough, she didn't sing many songs from Volta (her latest record) more stuff from Homogenic and Medulla . She also did an icelandic version of The Anchor song, that was great. It was, of course, an amazing night. ![]() __________________ "If you can't be free, at least you can be cheap." (Frank Zappa) Imagine Productions Icon by **MaRie** | |||

| No prob Pauline. When I discovered the music board I instantly went to see if there was a Björk board, and there wasn't. So I went to the indie thread cause I thought there weren't fans of her in FF. But yesterday I finally had the guts to open a thread by myself. Yay me! I kinda shouted to the wind "I might be the only one who likes her, but I don't care". Thank God she has fans here. ![]() I have every album of here, I even bought Family Tree which is the most absolute piece of garbage. I like Jóga a lot, the combination between those beats and the strings it's amazing but from Homogenic the track that I enjoy the most is Hunter, well that and the radio version of All Is Full Of Love. I went to a concert of her here in Spain too. It was amazing, the location was next to a Guggenheim museum which was built by architecht Frank Gehry. So everything had this avantgarde style, just perfect. I loved when she just sung Pluto, everybody went crazy. My fave song from Volta would be Wanderlust, although I like Dull Flame of Desire and Hope a lot. I wasn't impressed by Earth Intruders but I bought the album thinking that it would have some Björk gems, and man, it sure had some of those. At first, I was less than enthusiastic in the fact that she had substituted strings for a brass section, sure The Anchor Song is great but I really wasn't sure, I thought I'd miss the strings, but the result of the cd is great IMO. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| Oh the family Tree! This was the first thing I heard from her. Someone I knew was listenning to it at home, I snagged the CD and I fell in love with it. I remember this was around the time when I found out about Radiohead too, so I was playing 'I've seen it all" (the song with Thom Yorke) over and over. ![]() My favorite from Volta is definitely The dull flame of desire, I just can't get enough of this one, those 2 voices match perfectly together. I haven't listenned to this album in ages, but I think it's really messy comparing to her other albums. She mixed so many different stuff, it's quite hard to get into at first. As an exemple, one that I still don't know what to think about is Independence. It's great if you're angry about something, and you have to let go of this anger but over than that... ![]() __________________ "If you can't be free, at least you can be cheap." ![]() And about Declare Independence, the first time I heard it I was like, What the ******* is this? It's sort of a Pluto version 2.0. I kind of use it to get out of my system when I'm angry. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| He tried? Meaning it's not available? Because if it is, I want to hear! ![]() While we're talking about Antony, is he really famous in the US? I mean, has he done a lot of stuff, or is he just a random singer she likes? Because I never heard of him before... ![]() Well, talking about experiencing, Homogenic was pretty much all about experiencing too, and she was already big back then. so I don't think it has to do with her having more money. It was just a different kind of experiencing (because it's Bjork, she'll never do the same thing twice!) I've read in an interview she said she wanted to work with "noises" more than instruments. That's what Volta is all about IMO, especially on some songs like "Independence" or "Earth intruders". There's not really any melodies. She did with beats what she did with voices on Medulla. Except when it's with voices, it's easier for the listenner to get into obviously ![]() Not sure if I make sense. Bear with me and my lame english speaking, please! ![]() __________________ "If you can't be free, at least you can be cheap." (Frank Zappa) Imagine Productions Icon by **MaRie** | |||

He's got I think 2 cd's released so far and I think he makes chamber pop. I'm a mess with the music genres. I heard of him in a magazine but I have never really listened to him. The only thing I know is that he plays with the ambiguity, he's a man who often dresses and sings like a woman. ![]() Yeah, you're right in the fact that it's different experimentation. I think Medulla is her worst record though, don't get me wrong there are songs that I love like "Oceania" "Who is it?" or especially "Desired constellation" but as a whole the album is not so good IMO. I got tired after a few listenings and that doesn't happen to me with Björk. ![]() And don't worry about your english cause it's perfect. ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||

| You don't like Medulla? Then we have really different tastes, because it's almost my favorite record. Nothing can top Homogenic though. But I was amazed by it, from the very 1st time I heard it. YET, strangely enough, I don't listen to it that much. I love it, but I can't play it so often, it doesn't fit in the background, really not. I love the work she's done on voices, how she goes from whispering to yelling... Though, I don't see how she could play those songs on stage, it's really a studio record, that wasn't made for concerts. But it's really not the one I would recommend for someone who doesn't know Bjork! And thanks for the information about Antony! __________________ "If you can't be free, at least you can be cheap." | Hey Pauline, hope you're doing fine. Not surprised to see you around here!! I actually don't know Björk that well, just a few songs, but I don't own any CDs. I know I should! I might buy the DVD Screaming Masterpiece soon, for Sigur Ros, so I'll see Björk too! Auré __________________ "A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence." ![]() What is screaming Masterpiece? If you want, I can send you some stuff! And yeah, go get the CDs! I'd suggest Post (since you like It's oh so quiet) or Homogenic, they are the best ones to start with, I'd say. __________________ "If you can't be free, at least you can be cheap." | Medúlla wasn't done for concerts, she said so herself. And there are some songs that I enjoy a lot but others like Ancestors and Show me forgiveness, are just like NO! ![]() __________________ jose · icon by me | |||
