I am not sure the gambling is what got in the way of him and Rebecca as it's not clear when he started? Was it the result of getting out of the army, and dealing with all the stress of coming home and not being able to see Parker as much as he wanted.
Rebecca admitted she wasn't ready. Parker surprised them. But she wanted a life. And didn't think marriage was the answer and it wouldn't give her what she wanted. Obviously they had an attraction that compelled them every so often even after the broke up. As she told Brennan. She later realized she could have had it it if she had married Booth but they had missed the moment and wasn't able to go back. We know he was gambling when he and Brennan first connecting at work. He would say he won most times than he lost, and it wasn't really a problem. Whether that was true, obviously later on when he relapsed it got bad... It was interesting to see Rebecca. He definitely seemed to have a type? He so wanted to settle down and have more children but he fell for woman who couldn't commit. Fortunately Brennan changed her mind, and they found happiness. __________________

Yeah, we never found out exactly what ended things between Booth and Rebecca. It could have been gambling.

I felt it was the pregnancy. She wasn't ready to settle down. They were get together every so often so they still had the attraction but getting pregnant I am sure gives a dose of reality to a situation. Just like it did for Booth and Brennan. And for Rebecca she wasn't ready. Booth said he popped the question due to the pregnancy, but did have true feelings for her but it was too soon.
And then they missed their moment. __________________

That makes sense. I know they didn't always seem to be on the same page but they definitely did a good job raising Parker.

Yeah and Rebecca had the threat of being able to cut back Booth's visitation if he got too out of line. Which I didn't like when she tried to use it, but in the end they came together... As he said he only had a vague custody access to Parker. But until he moved overseas, Booth truly was an involved Dad and wanted to be there for his son and made time for him.
And Rebecca didn't get in the way. __________________
