Booth had his epiphany, and while it brought heart ache it allowed him to come to a place where he made a statement of what he wanted. And so it was only natural that Brennan's epiphany also brought her temporary heartache although hers had a tinge of regret, and having missed the boat and Booth was truly determined to make it work with someone else...

This episode, opened a Pandora box again for them. But it made it complicated as they tried to figure out how it all would work, but their friendship was still there... and only Booth would know something was odd, and would follow her and rescue her when she was about to go into danger...

This episode opened the box for them to be something in the future. Even though Booth wanted things to work out with Hannah, I think he knew deep down Brennan was the one he loved the most.

I agree. I think Booth knew Brennan was the one he knew he loved but he was afraid after what happened in the 100t episode.

Brennan reopened the wound that Booth had used the hiatus to close. And you really saw it in the next episode, the one when the Gravedigger died. And Booth starts the man hunt for Broadsky. Max is in town, and Brennan heads out of the diner to say good-bye to her father and you see Booth looking out at Brennan as she's listening to the sea shell. And you can tell any feelings he had to forced down, were reawakened and it was causing inner torment because he did have genuine feelings for Hannah.

But Brennan was the one...

I believe he had genuine feelings for Hannah, even though it pains me to say that, but at the same time I believe Brennan had genuine feelings for Sully too back in season two. But Brennan was the one for Booth and vice versa and no matter who they were with they were supposed to be with each other.

As he said in the episode with the three wives, and they end the episode with the reveal that the man despite his questionable history would always go back to the original wife on the "spare" night. And Booth indicates that you may love others, but you will always love one the most...

And that was blatant look that his feelings were definitely simmering again. And while he genuinely cared about Hannah, and they met in a high stress environment, and he genuinely was into her. There would always be one. Brennan.

I never thought of that before. That makes sense. Booth did care for Hannah but it wasn't the same way he felt about Brennan.

There was nobody that could ever take Brennan's place in his life.

Hannah could have been the one if it wasn't for Brennan. Coming back after the hiatus just made it apparent it was never going to work long term. Not with Brennan there, and even eventually they would have hit a wall given Hannah unable to commit. Which is something Booth truly wanted. And was rushing into something with Hannah to prove he could.

This episode reopened the "what if". He tried to close it by saying he was happy with Hannah but being close to Brennan...

The case of the doctor was a "What If" to Brennan if she kept going. Right down to a unrequited love with the guy who obviously loved her but the doctor couldn't go there...

It opened Brennan's eyes and once Booth knew that... It was going to be difficult. No matter how hard he tried to make it work with Hannah.
