Music has played a prominent role in a lot of Ryan's movies, especially songs. I fist noticed that when I was watching Half Nelson. It was the same for Blue Valentine and even Drive. I am guessing Ryan does have some input in these as these three seemed to be passion projects of his. I know in the case of Blue Valentine, Ryan actually picked the song "You and Me" and kept it from Michelle until they filmed that scene.

So I was thinking maybe we can share and discuss some of our favorite music (non-DMB related)from his movies in this thread. I guess I will start with It's Alright to Cry from Half Nelson.





The song was played during the family scene. That scene and the scenes following were really terrific. I thought those were some of the most emotional scenes from the movie and a highlight for me. And that's when I first realized that he had amazing chemistry with virtually everyone in the movie

A great story behind it to as Ryan found the show himself and played it to Michelle.



After a year I still don't know how to feel about this movie and the performance. Maybe it's because Michelle played it too close to the vest, and in contrast a lot of Dean's character still bugs me. But I am sure that's how Ryan and Derek saw the character. Still really admire the movie though. Seemed like both Ryan and Michelle went through a lot for it. Ryan climbing up the fence when he's afraid of heights, and got beat up by Mike and almost fainted afterwards.

Thanks for that. The movie was great for sure. Really raw and yeah I think they did portray the characters they way they see them as.
