What others say about Rachel - It's hard not to love her

It's been a while since we've had a new topic, so I thought I'd start this. The idea is basically to post quotes from Rachel's costars, other celebrities, directors, critics or others that comment about Rachel.

A few to start us off:
Quote:
"Rachel is luminous. There's an almost alchemical reaction between her face and the lens. She just glows. Rachel is a very private person. She has her own life outside of filmmaking."

- Robert Schwentke (director of TTTW)
Quote:
"[Rachel's] down to earth, and not a lot in the media. I always say that I worship Rachel McAdams as a movie actress..."

- Selena Gomez

Great thread, Belle! I'll continue...

Quote:
"There's nobody better around than Rachel McAdams. I think she's a fantastic actress which we've all seen before. She's also stunningly beautiful. I think audience members immediately can connect with her."

- Cillian Murphy
Quote:
"We met before, and then rehearsed, and went out for dinner and chatted and hung out. And she's just so cool. She's just the sweetest girl, and so normal. And I hoped that I would be the same. She's a brilliant actor, and so intelligent in her choices, like in the performance. And yeah, it was important, I guess, that we got on. You can't create chemistry."

- Cillian Murphy
Quote:
"She's amazing. She could do anything. She's just very down-to-earth and aware of the whole business."

- Cillian Murphy
Quote:
“I mean, God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.”

- Ryan Gosling
Sorry about all the overload of Cillian quotes. I'm a big fan of him, too, so you know. Aww, about what Ryan said about her though!

Don't be sorry about the Cillian quotes. I haven't read all of these before. Love them! They need to do another movie together.

Quote:
“I loved working with Rachel. I wasn't really aware of who she was. Before the movie started, I hadn't seen ‘Mean Girls’ and it was during filming that we had a screening of ‘The Notebook.’ I was kind of blown away because I had already seen in ‘Wedding Crashers’ how she could be funny and very charming, but that was like a very powerful emotional role that she played. And to me she has like such a great face. It could be like be from a 1950’s movie star. It's very open. She's very polite. She's Canadian and that's always nice.”

- Owen Wilson

Do you mean Cillian or Ryan or both? I say both. But yeah, Cillian and Rachel seemed like they got along so well when they were filming for Red Eye (I think that goes for everyone that Rachel's worked with). I'd definitely love to see them work together again.

Aww, about what Owen said! Indeed, she does look like a 50's star!

Quote:
"The rise of Rachel McAdams has been spectacular, if only because it has been so steep; in 2002, she had eighth billing in “The Hot Chick.” The only thing better would have been ninth billing. But then in 2004 she starred in “Mean Girls,” as the bitchiest girl in Lindsay Lohan’s high school. It was a surprisingly good movie, and then came a straight romantic lead in “The Notebook” and a comic romantic lead in “Wedding Crashers,” where Owen Wilson fell in love with her and caught a heart-warming case of sincerity. Now this.

The previous three movies positioned McAdams as a rising star. “Red Eye” will be more important, because casting directors, who know what to look for, will see that she brings more presence and credibility to her role than is really expected; she acts without betraying the slightest awareness that she’s inside a genre. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that she’s Canadian and thus culturally trained to avoid calling unnecessary attention to herself. Too many young Hollywood actors, especially in thrillers, think it’s all about them. Her performance qualifies her for heavy-duty roles."

- Roger Ebert (film critic) on Rachel's performance in Red Eye
Quote:
"Rachel McAdams ("The Notebook," "Mean Girls") comes into her own here. Previously she has been seen mostly as a hot chick (the title of her worst film) or an idealized sweetheart. Here she is feisty, vulnerable, plucky, warm, funny. This is her coming of age as an actress. She provides yet another lesson that you can't judge acting ability until you see an actor given a chance to really stretch. Watch the poignance of the scene when she meets her boyfriend's family."

- Roger Ebert (film critic) on Rachel's performance in The Lucky Ones

Definitely. I wouldn't mind seeing her with both again, but I especially meant Cillian.

The quote of Owen always makes me laugh because he has to mention that she's very polite. I think Rachel has that Old Hollywood look.

Quote:
"I got stuck being searched in Toronto, and she waited for me. I totally wasn't expecting to see her when I got through my Toronto search, and she was there, patiently waiting. Some people wouldn't have waited. That's all I'm saying."

- Eric Bana
Quote:
Yeah, [Rachel's] very luminous and she's very, very present which is great. The thing that you want most in the person you work with is for them to just be really present and not performing something in isolation and she's always very, very present and very reactive and very connected so she's a dream to work with from that regard. It's not just like she's at the net playing her own game; she's at the baseline dealing with you and it's a nice feeling. Yeah, I really felt it when I saw her in "Red Eye." I went, "Wow, this girl is amazing." She totally could absolutely live up to that."

- Eric Bana

I love the Eric quotes! So cute that she waited for him, and he liked her in Red Eye, too! Awesome. I've been trying to look for Eric quotes, but I haven't had much luck. Thanks for them. I love them together!

Quote:
"That’s the thing, I found that scene in the toilet awful man because there’s this sweet girl. But the thing with those you just have to rehearse and rehearse and just trust each other; she was amazing, just so cool."

- Cillian Murphy
Quote:
"Rachel is a beauty but she also runs deep and she’s got control of all the emotions and I felt like it would be a good ride with the two of them."

- Wes Craven (director of Red Eye)
Quote:
"I knew from the get-go that the whole second act is going to be these people basically sitting next to each other. There's very few films that put a director into that fix. So I knew it would live or die on acting and on faces. And the first time I had met her, I said, "Oh my God." [She's] beautiful and she has these eyes...So that told me that she certainly had the ability to be just galvanizing on the screen. And then talking to her and finding out that she had been a very highly advanced ice skater, I knew that she had physicality and had physical courage and had coordination and probably an immense amount of discipline. And then looking at the films she had done...Notebook, which is a beautiful, soft romantic thing, and then [Mean Girls], where she plays a hardass, looking totally different...I bumped into her today and I didn't recognize her. Every time I see her, she looks totally different! So I knew she was a chameleon. She talked about spending a lot of time on a farm. Her grandparents had a farm. So I knew she had been kind of down-to-earth and probably ridden bareback...And all this stuff, it just told me that this is a person that, if she has to, can get down and scrape and scrap with anybody and run and jump, and at the same time, have great acting chops."

- Wes Craven (director of Red Eye)

I felt anxious about that because it's so diminishing to her talent. You get the impulse—you want to put her in everything. But her selectiveness shows wisdom greater than her years about her place in the industry. She's very purposeful in side*stepping Hollywood. She has the opportunity to be this huge, huge movie star, but in her heart she's a character actress.

I hadn't been that impressed with someone since I worked with Meryl Streep

I love the quotes above, they are both quoted by Elle Magazine when Rachel was on the cover.

Yes, I did love the one about Rachel and Meryl. I can't wait for the day when they'll team up together onscreen.

"Something's happening behind the eyes that's different from what she's saying. There's a whole life going on within the gaze. Yes! You fall completely in love with Rachel when you work with her. And I'm a full-grown gay man!"

That quote from Ira Sachs is great.

Quote:
|"Rachel struck me as the ideal Irene. She portrays her with this fantastic benign facade under which is the serpent of the most nefarious nature. She's not to be trusted at all. Even when she's got a blade to your throat, she smiles. Her sweetness is a front she uses to be as efficient in a man's world as she is."

I know, right? She's so awesome! I love that pretty much everyone's consistent in what they say about her.

Belle, yeah, I loved Ira Sachs' quote! It's so funny! Thanks for Guy's quote -- it's so true!

Quote:
"Rachel's someone who would survive outside of this business. She just blends with the traffic on the street. She's someone from the real world and not at all affected by the industry."

- Eric Bana
Quote:
"Rachel isn't looking for a lot of friends and a big fat social life. I don't feel like she's drawn toward 'everyone love me' or 'I want to be the richest woman on Earth.' But of course, men fall in love with her like crazy."

- Diane Keaton

Aw, I love the Eric quote. He always such nice things about her.

"Rachel is the most open, warm, inviting person. When she meets anyone, she makes them feel special."
