Oh God I'm super excited! I don't want to get my hopes up and try to remind myself what happened with Jennifer Aniston's rumored nomination with Cake last year. But I can't help it
Even if she's not nominated with Spotlight, do you think Harvey Weinstein could do something to get her nominated with Southpaw?

I wish the best for her, even if she doesn't get nominated, this hype will clearly be very good for her career in the future

Thanks Lis!

And thanks Rikayla! You are so lucky to have been one of the first people to watch it

I agree with Wendy, I think it's going to get a Best Picture nod but I'm reeeeally not anticipating a personal nod for her for this. I'd love it if she WERE but I don't know, I think if she is nominated for it it's just going to be posterity's sake, I don't think she has any chance at all of actually winning it. But I'm excited that it's looking like it's a film that's going to have an extraordinary reception anyway, it makes me happy that she has a chance of at least, like, being recognized for doing good work in films that are so important.

Thanks for sharing your TIFF experience Wendy!

From Deadline/Pete Hammond:
Quote:
Still, there is no denying the impact Spotlight made during its appearances at Venice/Telluride/Toronto, especially the latter when the ensemble cast stood side by side with their real-life Globe counterparts for a rapturous standing ovation.

I have to admit I was very excited to meet the real Spotlight reporters who came to hang out with us at our big and fun Deadline awards-season launch party last night in West Hollywood. It was cool talking to Walter Robinson (played by Michael Keaton in the film), Michael Rezendes (played by Mark Ruffalo) and Sacha Pfeiffer (played by Rachel McAdams). They all certainly stand behind the screen portrayal of their story which can only be a huge plus as the season moves along. By the way, Open Road has firmly decided to campaign the ensemble cast — including Keaton, Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and McAdams — all in supporting categories. There is no lead in the film, so why try to create one? This is a no-brainer. They could dominate supporting categories.

I kind of love that they aren't trying to force a lead, that's sort of amazing.

Award Circuit's placing her at number 4 got me all hooked up but I'll do my best to keep it cool let's try to look at it this way; at least we know that she's probably going to attend the Oscars this year since Spotlight is going to get at least one nomination one way or another and she might even get to present again

I want to be on the Academy, I would give her an award for EVERYTHING. She would even win Best Score.

From THR:
Quote:
FEINBERG: Of the films we've seen so far, most feel that Spotlight is the strongest best-picture Oscar prospect, and this week we broke the news that its distributor, Open Road, has decided to push all of the members of its large ensemble — among them Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber and Stanley Tucci — in the supporting categories.

GALLOWAY: The danger is they'll cannibalize their support. But they're doing the right thing, at least ethically. None of those performances is a lead; it's a true ensemble film if ever there was one — and you know how much I dislike people pushing leads in the supporting categories, and vice versa. McAdams won't be hurt, as she's the only actress in contention, but it'll be tougher for the men — Ruffalo, Keaton and the others. On the other hand, this is exactly what happened with Little Miss Sunshine, and Alan Arkin went on to win the Oscar. I hope other films will learn from this — especially Carol, which should be pushing both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in the lead actress race.

Spotlight will open the Investigative Film Festival in Washington tonight and looks like David Simon, Martin Baron, Michael Rezendes, Sacha Pfeiffer and Walter Robinson are attending alongside director Tom McCarthy:

Quote:
Starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, Brian d’Arcy James and Stanley Tucci, SPOTLIGHT tells the riveting true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that would rock the city and cause a crisis in one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. When the newspaper’s tenacious “Spotlight” team of reporters delve into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment, touching off a wave of revelations around the world. Directed by Academy Award-nominee Tom McCarthy, SPOTLIGHT is a tense investigative thriller, tracing the steps to one of the biggest crime stories in modern times. The post-screening program features the original Spotlight team and the director, Tom McCarthy.
