During an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK to support the release of ‘Men & Chicken’, Mads Mikkelsen explained why ‘Doctor Strange’ is like nothing we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before… and told me that it could have been even crazier.

“If you look at the comic books, the comic books are quite different [to other Marvel stories],” he explained. “I think that the film will be different from the other [Marvel] films that we’ve seen, but not as different as the books are, because that was basically the ‘60s and ‘70s – it was more like an acid trip.”

“I don’t know if you’re familiar with the old comics but it’s quite a specific universe, with Kung Fu and Magic… so what’s not to love, really?”

“We’ve taken that fascination of the time into something we can relate to today,” he added. “So you still have the energy, you still have the colours, you still have the madness, but you also have something you can identify with. I think that was a necessity – if not, you would just make a crazy film. But you still have it there – you have all the action, all the good ingredients you get in a Marvel film, but it will have a different flavour, that’s for sure.”

But how does Mads Mikkelsen fit into all this?

At the moment, very little is known about his character, except that he’s playing a villain. But according to Mads, even that is up for interpretation.

“He’s not a villain in that way – he’s a man who believes in something else than the hero,” he explained. “That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to make the planet look wonderful or he wants to save the world as well, but he has a different way of doing it. He is the antagonist, of course, but he’s not necessarily wrong.”

Hopefully we will know in a month or so. Comic Con runs from July 21-24, so hopefully Doctor Strange will have a panel and they will announce it

EDIT: James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy will be at Comic Con, with Chris Pratt confirmed to attend. Fingers crossed for a Dr Strange & GOTG panel

Still waiting on confirmation of Doctor Strange being there, although given all the hints it seems like it's confirmed already

Still no mention of Doctor Strange at Comic Con but they haven't announced the Saturday schedule. GOTG is confirmed to have a panel. I believe it's tradition of Comic Con to release the full schedules per day, so that would mean the full Saturday schedule is next

They certainly know how to tease us ... Still no confirmation of Doctor Strange or any of the cast. I mean, it's likely but it's sort of annoying they are confirming other movies and panels and no word on Marvel's line-up
