the earliest I could find their paths crossing was 2005. Rachel attended Jake's "Proof" premiere at TIFF. I couldn't find a pic of them together but here they are on the red carpet:

If they met in the UK it has to be before TIFF September 2005. I think Jake was in London for an extended period in 2002 when he did a play in the West End. I wish we knew how they met

Thanks for sharing! I was actually thinking that they might have met when Rachel was filming Sherlock Holmes in the UK but I'm all for them meeting earlier on

it's actually my ALL TIME favourite mcgyllenhaal moment because they were sitting right next to each other, and jake looked SO UNCHARACTERISTICALLY SHY while saying it. like usually he's pretty bold when he talks to his co-stars, but he looked so shy when he flirts with her LOL. it's like he actually truly believes she's too good for him
