I'm excited for this! It's something that sounds so completely different to anything that we've seen her in.

Me too! I agree, she's picking whole range of diverse roles, which is really exciting. Rachel's been training for the movie, so I can't wait to see what it'll give on screen.

I got this via IMDB about a cast sighting:

- An enterprising actress-waitress performed backflips on the floor of Lure Fish Bar in SoHo last week to impress a tableful of Hollywood types celebrating the start of the film "The Return." The table included Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins, Michael Pena, writer/director Neil Burger and producer Rick Schwartz.

I thought I pasted it, but there was a sentence in brakets that followed it saying that, unfortunately, she didn't get a part in the movie.

Shooting is supposedly starting tomorrow. Anyone know where they're shooting?

Robbins, McAdams flick being shot at Arlington Hts. hospital
Sheila Ahern | Daily Herald

A group of people spent hours fixing one drape at Northwest Community Hospital on Thursday.

They were not the world’s fussiest patients. They were from Hollywood.

On Monday, some scenes from “The Return,” starring Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams and Michael Pena, will be shot at the Arlington Heights hospital.

A film crew will spend today transforming parts of the hospital into the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center — a U.S. military hospital in Germany. Three scenes will be shot at the hospital, said Blaine Krage, a hospital spokesman.

“For one day, Northwest Community will be a German hospital,” he said. “They removed a mailbox today because it was something American.”

Robbins, McAdams and Pena will all be at the hospital Monday. There will also be 30 to 50 extras and a crew of more than 50 people on site, Krage said.

Not to mention eight to 10 trailers and about 100 other vehicles.

“The film crew is making calls to accommodate everyone,” he said. “I think they’re looking at the Army site across Central (Road).”

Scenes will be shot in a mock hospital room, a hallway, and outside a hospital entrance off Central Road.

“The Return” is a drama about three injured U.S. soldiers (Robbins, McAdams and Pena) who all return from the war in Iraq to discover life has moved on without them. After being released from the military hospital (Northwest Community), they become companions on an unexpected road trip across America, driving from New York City to Las Vegas.

The film is directed by Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”) and written by Burger and Dirk Wittenborn.

The film is being shot this month and in June throughout the suburban Chicago area, as well as in St. Louis, Colorado and Las Vegas. “The Return” is expected to arrive in theaters nationwide in December.

Northwest Community was paid a “site fee” for letting the crew film scenes at the hospital, but Krage declined to release that amount.

This is the first film crew to use the Arlington Heights hospital as a backdrop. Northwest Community was built in 1959.

Thanks for the links.

On IMDB, there's like a couple of set sightings as well.

Here's another (longer) synopsis:

From LIONSGATE:

Quote:
"After suffering an injury during a routine patrol, hardened sergeant TK Poole (Michael Pena) is granted a one-month leave to visit his fiancé. But when an unexpected blackout cancels all flights out of New York, TK agrees to share a ride to Pittsburgh with two similarly stranded servicemen: Cheever (Tim Robbins), an older family man who longs to return to his wife in St. Louis, and Colee (Rachel McAdams), a naive private who's pinned her hopes on connecting with a dead fellow soldier's family. What begins as a short trip unexpectedly evolves into a longer journey. Forced to grapple with old relationships, broken hopes and a country divided over the war, TK, Cheever and Colee discover that home is not quite what they remembered, and that the unlikely companionship they've found might be what matters the most."

Rumour has it -

Quote:
Okay, let's make that eight (as opposed to the previous count of seven) Iraq movies with the addition of Lionsgate's The Return, a road movie about three Iraq War veterans (played by Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena) from director and co-writer Neil Burger (The Illusionist). It only finished filming in late June, and a Lionsgate publicist just told me it's not on the company's upcoming release slate. Figure sometime in '08 but forget December '07, as the IMDB has it.
