I actually hope the European DVD/Blu-ray will get delayed as well. I think it might be bad for the box office in the US/UK because people will download/watch it online.

I'm sure they probably will do that. But I guess I've stopped expecting this to do jack in terms of box office anyways.

Thanks Nick I asked the US distributor if they had news on the release date on twitter and they replied:
When you look at the official facebook date it says: 8/1 Video on Demand & In Theaters 8/31

The 31st is a Saturday, which is a little strange.

It could be that they've just listed a generic August date until an official date is announced.

As an example, when it looked like Passion would be heading for a July release, the Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX.com – StarBond : Rachel McAdams) updated the release date to July 31st, which was purely to indicate that it would be released sometime in July. (BTW: HSX is a fun website to watch. Interesting to see celebrity "stocks" go up and down with the release of trailers, casting news, box office results etc. Worth checking out if you have the time).

It sounds like news on an official release date is inevitable in the next few weeks, and hopefully they'll include a new domestic trailer with the announcement

Good point Nick, you are probably right. Same works for a December 31 release date, that usually means the movie will come out somewhere in that year.

It's a good sign that they are starting to promote the movie on their facebook and twitter page, that hopefully means they are working on getting it released. And I think VOD is actually a good move to release this kind of movie.

All I know is I want it right now! I'm excited that they seem to be getting ready to start promoting it too though. I want so badly to see them do SOMETHING for this for North America. Thanks for all the info, guys!

That's actually a pretty good date to open Passion in cinemas. There are no major new releases that I would expect to do big things at the box office, although many of them are thrillers as well:

  Concert, Sony / Columbia, Wide
