"Stochasticity" 2.01
Airs Sunday January 13th 10/9c Showtime

Marty and the Pod adjust to the "new" Galweather Stearn in the aftermath of the sexual harassment scandal. Interim CEO, Julianne Hofschrager, needs Marty to live up to his reputation of being a fearless closer but that expectation poses a challenge when Marty consults with Mr. Pincus, a valued client no one in the company knows. Meanwhile, Jeannie relives haunting memories from a drunken night out and Marty struggles to patch things up with his son Roscoe.

first couple reviews.

AV club begrudgingly gave it a B (the reviewer really isn't a 'fan' so i think it hurt him)

Marty's still the main character, but the episode isn't filtered entirely through him. The only artificial construction we see is, when the pod is trying to get info from a client, the screen flashes “Blitz!” as they ask him increasingly demanding questions.
Instead, we see the episode through Jeannie's point of view. The mystery of what happened on the night she and Marty got wasted in the first season finale is her mystery, because she's the one asking the questions, and we see her flashbacks to the events of the night. This isn't inherently an improvement—Jeannie was less subtle in her terribleness, but still a terrible character. Still, moving House Of Lies away from being Don Cheadle's Vague Existential Terror and toward something more solid has potential, as does focusing on Jeannie and making her less stereotypical.

not sure i like the ending much... but i loved the jeannie and clyde moment

and looking forward to vegas baby! and matt damon omg

wow. i actually really enjoyed that. if it can continue along this vein (tonally) i'll be really happy this season.
but... i did not see that curveball coming. and i'm not sure how i feel about it.

i hope they don't go down the jeannie/marty baby route purely because i hate that pairing and think they would be terrible for each other. but maybe she's still recovering from the tequila. there was A LOT of it

loved the ep.
pacing was a huge issue i had with last season. but everything flowed really well this ep. i loved the whole thing with them trying to figure out who the hell pinkus is.

im not sure what i want to happen with jeannie and marty.. sometimes i feel like i can see them together. other times, i dont want it to happen at all. this ep didnt push me more in either direction

yeah. i liked that the client. while important was second tier to the pod. we didn't get involved in his personal life in any way, which i always felt pulled too much focus.
plus it would appear that he is a recurring client... instead of a client of the week deal, which should also keep things interesting.

also to see the story unfold from a different characters perspective was very refreshing.

i was also happy that their wasn't any serious chatting to the camera.
while i did enjoy the freeze-frames to a certain degree, they were far too overplayed last season. all in all, i'm much happier now.

and jackie was great.

I totally agree w/what you said about the ep too, esp the part about the downplayed freeze frames and yapping at the camera. I'm excited about the improvements. So geeked.

really enjoyed the episode! i loved jackie's little role in the show! nice to see she was in a scene with kristen even though they didn't talk to each other! love how we were slowly finding out what marty and jeannie were doing while they were drun and the reveal at the end what she said to marty

glad they figured out who pinkus is lol

i like the addition of julianne. love jeannie calling her out in the promo. would be interesting to see a dynamic between them and having a female in charge
