What do you have coming up next? “Well, I will finish creative directing the other two shorts [for Lipton], so we’ll be editing those in the next week or two and they’ll be released on the Be More Tea Tumblr. Then, I don’t know… I go back to House of Lies in September and I thought about doing something this summer, but I’m not sure. I might just take a month or two off and be a mom.” Can you tell us more about those shorts? “I was brought on as a creative director. I came on board to conceptualize short films that brought to life this campaign, Win an Extra Sunday—you pop the lid and you win the chance to give Lipton all of your chores for the day, your to-do list. I’m such a big fan of encouraging people to get off autopilot and go out and be playful, and it’s a really cool giveaway that I would want to win. “We used two characters in the commercials—Stu and Carl—who are this comedy team that are the Lipton delivery men, and I thought wouldn’t it be great if we were able to have them be the ones actually executing peoples’ to-do lists, so there’s a lot of comedy when they mess up or get it right. I hired a production company and a writer that I loved and cast it and shot these three short films, went behind the camera, and it was a lot of fun.” Does this mean you might try your hand at directing some feature-length films in the future? “Maybe many, many, many years from now. It’s a talent level that I don’t have a grasp on yet, but I think the first step is hiring people around you who know what they’re doing, which is what I did on this. So yeah, that’s helpful.”
