As a result of reading through Reddit comments from the link on Shawn's thread. Then I googled to verify and there's all these interviews and articles. And now that I know, I can totally hear his dad in his voice.

IKR? There's a quality to his acting too, the way he embodies the sidekick role, that's allowing me to see some "Jazz" now. For now I'll call it the 'Hey, I just came for the free snacks, please don't hit me' quality.
 Except that there's never a reason to kick out Zay. He's more like a voice of reason, presented with caution.__________________
