I think it was mostly from Shawn's side. At first he was excited about a brother then he wrote letters but Jack never knew since his mom hid it from him. These two always gets into fights about how Shawn's capable of supporting himself and not from Jack's family because Shawn's always been able to take care of himself.

I'm glad they eventually got along and really cared and loved each other like brothers.
