^ That helped a little.
I'm going to need to have the focus, the quiet and the brain space to process things before I start reading it.  From what I remember, Katy tried to make sure that Maya didn't have any ill feelings towards her dad. Katy didn't want Maya to feel the same way about Kermit that she did. Just because he had hurt her by leaving, it didn't mean that Maya had to feel that pain. Katy wanted her to have as positive of a relationship with her father as she could have. It wasn't until Maya was older that she concluded that Katy must have driven him away. Katy spent all that time playing the villain in Maya's story, just so Maya wouldn't hate her father. __________________

^ That's why Katy's a great mother. She puts aside her hurt feelings after Kermit left them, and let Maya believe good things about her father and hopefully have good feelings about him.
