I'm so glad TPTB made this connection between Mr. Turner and Shawn. I may not remember a lot of their moments, but I do know that they were important parts of each other's lives. We got to see a different side to their characters, which was awesome.

It was, & I think the stability that Turner gave Shawn was really good for him, & made a big difference in his life

^ I agree. They shared so many moments where Mr. Turner took the time to check in with Shawn so that Shawn knew that he always had him in his corner. Shawn was never at risk of losing his way, not when he had Mr. Turner looking out for him.

Definitely not, I think that Cory was that for Shawn a lot too, but it's different to have an adult keep you on the right path like that

^ That's true. Mr. Turner and Shawn didn't have the history that Cory and Shawn did, so it did take some time for Shawn to let Mr. Turner in enough to trust him. When he did let him in though, it was obvious how much Shawn valued Mr. Turner's guidance.

Definitely, Shawn really appreciated him & never wanted to let Turner down

^ That's true. Shawn seemed to have a connection with Mr. Turner that was different from the other connections in his life. I think Shawn looked at Mr. Turner, and he saw the future that he could have, which is why I think he never wanted to let him down.

Definitely not, having someone like Turner believe in him, was a big boost for Shawn & gave him a lot more self-belief

^ Exactly. The fact that Mr. Turner was willing to take Shawn in when he didn't have to was huge! I think Shawn really appreciated having someone like Mr. Turner wanting to be that lifeline for him.

Yeah, I think Shawn might have down a different path if it wasn't for Turner

^ I agree with that. Remember that scene where Shawn thought that he was a low-life and trailer trash and he was about to trash Mr. Turner's motorcycle, but Mr. Turner caught him just in time? That whole scene was so powerful! I don't think Shawn would have listened to Mr. Turner if he hadn't believed him when he told him that he was alright and that he would be alright.

Definitely, the way Turner saw him, helped Shawn to see himself differently

^ For sure! Even though Shawn had Cory and his family to believe in him and keep him from losing his way, his bond with Mr. Turner was different in one big way. Since they met when Shawn was much older so they didn't have as much history, I think Shawn knew that Mr. Turner wouldn't sugarcoat things for him. He would give him his brutal honesty. I think Shawn needed that sometimes.
