When people look at you differently. Packaging does matter. I wasn't pretty, then I was. This is a world where "pretty" seems better somehow.
Which is too bad, but it's not debatable. However, I also learned that if you get swept up about what you are on the outside, you can lose who you are on the inside.
Even though it is easy to be fooled by the beauty of the Trojan Horse, its real power comes from the army within.
Intelligence, compassion, integrity, courage. That army is the real you. No matter what you look like.
So, even though beauty may be skin deep, beauty is nowhere near as important as the army inside.
And I'll try not to forget that."

I don't think that scene would have had the same impact if Cory or another character had given that speech. Smackle's research helped her understand how real power comes from within. I think some, if not all, of the viewers had a lot to think about after they first watched that scene.

That whole quadrilateral thing worked out nicely for Smackle. I loved her dynamics with all three guys, so it was a win for me, no matter who TPTB had her interacting with.

^ I've picked up on that. =p I think TPTB were going to keep hinting/teasing Smackle with each of the guys, because it clearly got laughs when Smackle would seem indecisive about her connection with each of them.

^ Yup! I think it would have kept going for many more seasons, even when Smackle got really serious with one of the guys. It would just be a fun gag that none of them would be threatened by.
