In general this episode was kinda blah to me.

Someone that doesn’t like Riley? Hilarious. BTW what was with her hideous outfit in this episode?

I’m just getting pretty tired of Riley acting like a child when things don’t go her way an acting like she cant believe/understand the world, it’s a bit over the top.

So Maya says she “cared” when she was Riley but she doesn’t “care” anymore. Wow, thats interesting. But also confusing because in GMJexica, when she was apparently "riley" but she didnt care at all about being herself online, so it doesnt really make sense. (Also I loved how close Lucas was sitting next to her and all the smiles on his face.)

Again, other than Lucas picking Riley up there really wasn’t anything distinctive about them in this episode to show they are an actual couple. Its just such weird writing.

Once again, Smackle flirting with Lucas. UGH, it annoys me. Farkle deserves better.

The picking the girls up (and smackle dragging farkle) was kinda funny.

Though I like Riley and enjoy her eccentricity most of the time, I can definitely see why the premise of this episode and her behavior would be annoying.

And I sort of agree about her characterization. The writers often seem to throw development and consistency under the bus for the sake of humor and/or current episode’s big lesson. They do it with other characters too, but it’s maybe most prominent with Riley. This ep didn’t bother me so much, but in Girl Meets the Real World, I really hated the idea she’s so super unaware of the world around her. Where did the Riley who was so upset about consumerism in the world full of poverty, disease and misery go?

That aside I enjoyed the ep, primarily for all the Rilaya. The moment when Maya was stroking her hair was extra sweet.

Smarkle had nice moments as individuals and couple too, but they had to ruin it with Smackle/Lucas. I’m so not buying everyone is in love with the blandest person in the group. I don't dislike Lucas, but he's my least fave out of the 6 main characters.

Disliked Topanga actually going through with her crazy plan. It was funny when she mentioned it, but when she actually did it, it was too over the top for me.

I've always preferred Riley and Lucas mainly because that's what the story has told us. But even now I'm having second thoughts. I think both Riley and Maya need to be with someone who actually has a personality and a pulse. WTF.

I completely agree about Lucas being bland. He is not fleshed out in the least and I'm so sick of everyone insinuating that he's so hot. I don't get it. He just sits there and smiles half the time. Why Smackle would remotely be attracted to him when she has someone as cute, adorable, challenges her intellectually in Farkle is unrealistic and just stupid. I am sick of Farkle looking lame sitting there having to witness this weird flirtation she has for a guy in Lucas who just basically sits there and supposedly is so hot even someone like Smackle can't resist him. It bothers me. I don't for a second buy Smackle being this attracted to Lucas. It's so annoying. I don't even find Lucas that good looking so I don't buy the constant pimpage of his looks either but that's not even what bothers me so much... he's just vanilla in personality, he's like a robot, a computer. He sits there looking dumb without any layers or personality. He's always been like this. It's really annoying.

Lost in Translation

I think this episode did more for me than the last episode. Some things were not so hot (Riley not being liked, really? Also: Smackle's behaviour got under my skin but otherwise the show seemed cute. I must admit I hadn't ever laughed so hard as the time Smackle explained page 73. Was it juvenile? Yes, but juvenile is what I needed and I think the show needed it too. I also think the life lesson (that you can't control everything and that you can find out a lot about yourself in situations where you loose control) was a good one- certainly it's a life lesson I need to learn again.

I enjoy both Rucas and Lucaya at times, but Rilaya far outshine both for me all the time because Rowan and Sabrina imo have the best chemistry on the show. However, I know romantic Rilaya is probably never going to happen and do agree the writing has seemed more pro Rucas than Lucaya so far.

And lol, I so agree with you about Lucas being bland both looks and personality wise. Smackle herself seemed not to be interested back in s1 and even parts of s2 (before the New Year ep). They’ve established she was only using Lucas to make Farkle jealous, so I have no idea where all the Smackle-has-a-crush-on-Lucas thing even came from.

I was also when Zay said he likes Riley and Maya this season. I like the girls way more than I like Lucas and am not opposed to either of them with Zay, but I wish the writers would let Farkle, Smackle and Zay have life outside of Rucaya.

I liked this too.

the only reason the writing seems more pro rucas is for the mere fact that lucas chose Riley. Otherwise, no. They dont even show them being a couple, its the worst writing for a shows main pairing I think Ive ever seen.

The lack of couple-y scenes for Rucas lately is definitely weird. But still, they’re the show's set-up-from-the-pilot, very-likely-endgame couple and Ski Lodge 2 imo reconfirmed them as such. Though of course if the show gets more seasons, the writers can change that.

Not to mention, regardless of which ship is the endgame, most fans will still see the one they like as the best endgame material anyway. I know I certainly intend to see Rilaya as endgame no matter what. The "they'll marry each other" and "they're our first boyfriends, but we're each other's extraordinary relationship" was foreshadowing in my head and not even the writers can convince me otherwise.

Set up from the pilot, sure, but Im not sure they were designed to be the "endgame". In fact, the interviews from the writers who are constantly saying its about making wrong choices, and growing up, and friendship etc, I feel like they are seeing up RL to not work. To show that your idea of a fairytale romance in 8th grade isn't necessarily your true love in life.

I mean, they did the opposite with BMW with cory/topanga and they've said so many times that none of these couples are T/C and that its a different time now and a different show so I feel like the lessons will be different. They will be showing you dont need a guy to be happy and I truly think its gonna be about M/R in the end, remaining friends.

Not necessarily. Often times, shows will do one pairing in the triangle first so that they can do the other one later one. I dont necessarily think that is true but I think its a possibility.

yeah, i don't like how they're spacing them out, but it's better than every week then waiting almost a full year.

I loved this episode and this whole season is just really bridging the gap from adolescence to adulthood. It's not a full leap, of course, but it's done in a way where a lot of people can relate.

Yeah I actually dont mind the spacing out only because I like getting episodes year round, BUT I wish they had a more consistent timeline, like, the first week and last week of every month or something.
