^ That was my first thought as well. I thought that TPTB were setting Riley and Lucas up as the Cory/Topanga, 'first love' love story of the Girl Meets World universe.
You're not a Maya fan? Huh. I get that. You don't necessarily have to love all of the characters on a show so that you can root for/ship a couple. __________________

If you go back, you can see that cory and topanga showing maya attention and you could see the hurt on Riley's face, she felt second to maya, lucas made her feel loved

It was in the first season you could see the hurt when her mom seemed more concerned about maya, if you go back watch the first season, look at her body language and her face,
