This thread title is going to make me smile every time I see this thread. Mr. Feeny was surrounded by people who didn't always listen to his advice/guidance. You can bet that the stupid idea train thought popped into his head many times a day.

^ True story. I think he was more prepared to deal with the emotions of not being able to teach them anymore when he retired one day. It probably didn't cross his mind that he would have to say goodbye to them so soon into their college years.

Definitely, I expect that when he thought ahead, he still thought he'd be there to be around & teach them outside the classroom, & never thought that they would move away

Not sure, I could see it going either way where he wanted some time off, or that he'd just get right back to work & keep helping kids...

^ That is the beautiful complexity that is Mr. Feeny. We can imagine both scenarios, because we know that either path is possible. Mr. Feeny's purpose in life was to guide as many students as he could, so he probably did get right back to work, maybe after he took some time off. I think he may have kept more of a distance from the other students so that he could protect himself from feeling that loss a second time.
