I can actually imagine Eric using one of the two words correctly, and Mr. Feeny looking so proud....and then Eric 'correcting' himself to the wrong use of the word and Mr. Feeny

. That's more likely to happen.

I think he probably thought that he was supposed to sound smart after he graduated/got a diploma.

Looking at Mr. Feeny's reaction to Eric's attempt to sound smart, it seems like he wished he could tell him just to be himself. =)

^ I think so too. Eric trying to sound smart would have made him use words the wrong way, which would have make him sound like he didn't know what he was saying. Mr. Feeny's advice to be himself would have saved Eric a lot of embarrassment.

Hopefully, some of Mr. Feeny's lessons have stuck and Eric hasn't made the same grammatical error...that many times.
