Natalie Portman - Ann August / Anywhere But Here Appreciation Thread

Here it is,the Ann August Appreciation Thread for the character Natalie Portman played in Anywhere But Here.Anyone else a fan of her in that movie?

Director Wayne Wang, known for family dramas about Chinese Americans that focus on mother-daughter relationships (DIM SUM, THE JOY LUCK CLUB), here adapts Mona Simpson’s ANYWHERE BUT HERE, a novel perfectly suited for his talents. Teenage Ann (Natalie Portman) wants a normal life, but her mother, Adele (Susan Sarandon), has a different idea of what is considered normal. When Adele grows tired of claustrophobic small-town life in Wisconsin, she takes the constantly complaining Ann across the country to Los Angeles, where she wants to start a new life. Ann, however, doesn’t want to go, and her behavior wavers between typical adolescent annoyance to real insightfulness into her mother’s character. Much of this comes from the voice-over provided by the adult Ann, who explains it all from her mature point of view. This sentimental story, long on feelings and more feelings, is nicely played, with Sarandon enthusiastic as the eccentric single mother that her daughter can’t wait to get away from.

I actually really liked this movie and I thought Natalie was perfect in it.

I liked this movie a lot. Susan and Natalie played very well off one another.

I agree.I loved the whole mother/daughter relationship.It was really well played by both of them.

I really liked this movie too. I was very strong acting-wise. Susan Sarandon and Natalie were both awesome. I also liked that guy, Peter, the one who liked Ann. He was cute.

My favorite scene is when he starts stripping and she runs over and hugs him.

I loved this movie. Everytime I see it, I like it more. Natalie was so good in it. I loved the relatioship between Ann and her mother, and I really liked her with Peter.

I call this movie the story of my life, b/c my life is a lot like this movie, only worse, lol. I think Nat & Susan were amazing though!

My fav. moment is also when she has Peter strip, then she runs over and hugs him, that is just such a powerful moment.

I love this movie. Natalie and Susan were great in this movie.

My favorite part would have to be when Susan's character walked in on the audition Natalie's character was doing. It was sad yet Natalie's character was trying to get a point across.

Haha, omg I have the song! It's "Come Here" by Lili Haydn, I think!
