I don't have time to reply to people at the moment, and I do apologize, but apparently my father ended up misunderstanding my teacher and I still have the rest of the course to complete (8 assignments remain, soon to be 7), so I've been irritated to the point where my vision is fuzzy until I read this in association with road rage (hah, the hilarity...):

IED belongs to the larger family of Axis I impulse control disorders listed in the DSM-IV-TR,

That made this better.

Also, Minneapolis is one of the road rage capitals of the U.S. So's Detriot. Boy, we Midwesterners sure are insane drivers I hope T.R. isn't edgy behind the wheel.

Just popping in at work. The pics work if you refresh them but I'll make it easier.

Credit Pia with the news of the TV Guide article. I haven't seen it yet.

Ugh Perez sickens me he is no good role model for other homosexuals and he could be since he is in that Hollywood gossip world.

Thanks for the pictures. I've never seen them before.

The TV Guide article is in the "Hot Bodies" issue. I don't remember who wrote it.

Is it due to what she considered the Gizzie fiasco? We know Gizzie has a lot of fans, but I never thought she does, and she seems to blame it all on George somehow.
I think it's more ABC who blames him for the backlash rather than Shonda. She did try to pair him with Lexie and looked forward to them. The network, seeing the ratings slip shifted the blame to TR because of his sexuality. Notice that topic is raised more exclusively in the media than amongst fans. When it is I realize it's more in general entertainment sites like US Weekly, which is tabloid fare, but in show-specific forums it's barely uttered. Even in TWoP it's hardly mentioned in conversation.

Quote:
I wish she would speak out.
I do too. The one place I thought was completely unnecessary to delete George was on the writer's blog. Most people felt "What a Difference a Day Makes" was one of George's finest moments and TR greatest perfomrance in the series. Yet he's referred to in passing and almost in an admonishing manner. Even if phasing him out for the cliffhanger was her intention doing so on her site was overkill.

Quote:
It's too bad because of all the characters, George had the most potential left unexplored IMO.
Many did want to see him recover and have a happy ending, including a lasting romance. Alas ABC now has totally disregards good guys.

Heehee, it happens. We're such fangirls. The next thread title should be "Because he's completely transformed two letters in the alphabet for us." Wow. I expected Detroit to have road rage because that city has plenty of rage in general but Minneapolis was a surprise.

Quote:

That's the dark side of gossip. While I it can be fun when taken lightly it's also a source for people to cast judgment on others and that describes Perez. If celebrities don't conform to his exact ideas he denigrates them terribly. You're right he could've been a role model with the attention he gets in the media. Then again would it have ever chosen him if he wasn't a train wreck.

Now onto happier matters. TR is headed to Broadway! He's set to star in Lend Me a Tenor starting February 2010. Cindy, Matt Logan, and anyone nearby NYC can have their chance. It's going to be directed by Stanley Tucci, whom I adore. The reading had luminaries such as Tony Shalhoub, Alfred Molina, and Marian Seldes. I hope they join.

Sorry, Pia, I guess your stuck in the middle. We have to appeal in a Steppenwolf production.

RIALTO CHATTER: T.R. Knight Officially Attached To 'TENOR', Tucci To Direct, Opening On Broadway February, 2010

Here's detailed info on the casting of Parade. My British friends tell me Lara Pulver is on the current Robin Hood series.

Pulver, Berresse, Hoff, d'Amboise And More Join Knight in CTG's 'PARADE', Previews Begin 9/24 (Updated)

This makes it the second reading that has turned into a full-fledged production. I'm proud of TR and was always confident he's smarter than some will give him credit for.

Thanks, Marie, for the compliment.

Wow, have you guys been busy!!! I am mostly through reading up... although, I still must find time for some of the indulgent extras!!!

First of all,
Congrats to Lee on 100%--
Bummer about being misinformed on the number of assignments This driver's ed course seems quite intense... I don't what I had to do for driver's ed was nearly as demanding. I hope your homeschooling has a summer hiatus, at least.

I loved all the fangirl talk a few days past-- you guys cracked me up
I find myself comparing any male character to George O'Malley (of course they don't usually measure up to our sweet, humble hero).
I'm also just about killing my husband. Sometimes he jokes about my obsession and sometimes he can be degrading about it... my fangirl-ness is a bit much for him... to ridiculous. But I say to him most of the time about it. When he's being funny about it, it is funny b/c he knows his name is TR Knight, but his cute jealousy doesn't allow him to "remember" his name correctly...he'll say things like "that TZM guy" or "if you weren't so busy looking at/talking about "TKZ". Kinda funny. Now and then he'll slip and say his name right... I call him on it

As a fangirl, I totally support Gwen's title suggestion for the next thread:
Quote:
"Because he's completely transformed two letters in the alphabet for us."
Love it!

Sorry to all those who I haven't responded to PM's from-- summer will all kids home is busy... this past w/e we did a neighborhood camp out w/ the kids... it ended up being fun, but activities like these make me wish my 2 yr old was older!

Glad to hear your Mom is doing better these days, Gwen. And good for you for encouraging/pushing her out the door for some exercise. Caring for your parents can be tough work at times... especially when they are resistant to our care taking ideas-- keep pushing, though... the exercise will be of great benefit to you all. I wish I could have convinced my parents to make some serious habit changes, but by the time that I was old enough/mature enough to recognize and help in this, they were too sick (the age gap b/t us was 42 yrs!! yes, I was "unplanned" )

Gwen, you mentioned experiencing racism yourself. I worry about this for my youngest... he is So. Korean. He's young, so I haven't had to worry too much on him being affected by it yet, but I have encountered some myself, much that is harmless or not too offensive though... usually just comments about how cute he is, or children making the "squinty eyes" or people asking me how I "got a boy", assuming that he is Chinese. The most unfortunate thing about this is that he has very little connection to his heritage, as it is, and then to have people mistake him for being Chinese (not that there's anything wrong w/ being Chinese-- it's just not his heritage) makes his strongest connection to his heritage null and void to the way others see him. Anyway, it saddens me to think that he may encounter racism one day when he's older and doesn't have me with him.

Thanks so much for this info, Gwen! I'm so excited... although I have a ways to wait... that is good, considering me getting to NY will probably be a child care logistical mess, I am determined to go!
Thanks, too for the info on Parade

Pia-- thanks for the heads up on the TV Guide article. I'm gonna run out and see if I can pick one up. Interesting how you said that the writer acknowledged Shonda's possible disenchantment with George... I am truly surprised to see that. Although, like Gwen, I believe it more ABC's wish to push George to the backburner and TR out the door. It still leaves us all wondering about Shonda's extent in the situation...

Well, I'm off... the troops here are getting a little restless. Doesn't help that for the past month we've had a total of like 4 sunny days-- ugh! I guess climbing the walls is a better description than restless

Cheers for TR! I love how he's literally bouncing from Greys to Broadway! It shows his life isn't over just cuz his time on Greys is done

IA about the dark side of gossip. Perez gets A LOT of coverage and he was part of that Miss Cali scandal but he is just a hypocrite and it's a waste for how much he could really do in the spotlight.

Can't stay too long - my aunt's currently over and she's napping on our couch, so I'm able to sneak away and reply.

Gwen, Cindy, Marie, thank you! I still have six assignments to finish and then she'll let me take it. I guess it's really not that big of a deal...it's just annoying because everyone I know that's my age already has their license while I don't even have a permit, and they seem to get their laughs about it...

I got your PM, Gwen, and read it. I'll get back to you either later today or tomorrow. That was definitely interesting, so thanks for sending all of that over.

Never let fear stop you from doing something. If you did happen to fail, the glory of it all is that you can try again. Look at George: he failed his intern exam (by one point - that ticked me off), repeated, retook it and passed, then became a resident - by far, one of THE best residents!

When in doubt, have no fear, just think WWGD?

Maybe Shonda is using a shared one on us - Katie once said the production was cheap, even if she was kidding... That would be so cute though if she did name her son after him. I always pictured Katie and Josh naming their son after him if they were to have children. Like...Theodore Josh or something. Then they could call him T.J. I'm having a moment of squealing over the adorableness of the McBabies...

Since the Irish faced discrimination some opted for less Celtic sounding names. It's possible the original surname was McKnight. Also Ireland has been settled by non-Irish over the centuries and even those born and bred in emerald isle have traces of foreign blood via their ancestral names. It doesn't mean he isn't mostly Irish.
You make a good point here. I never thought about the name change before, so it could be possible. Maybe his great-grandfather or someone immigrated here and changed their name.

Truthfully TR's hair texture looks thick and slightly course like Native American/Asian hair. Others wonder about the abrupt dip in his nosebridge but I've seen that in Irish and Eastern Europeans.
Never considered the hair bit...maybe there is a chance that he has Native American. As far as his nose goes, the dip always reminded me a bit of Patrick's.

I'm Catholic too and have heard the story of St. Theodore. Also there's something odd about his name in relations to his siblings. Daniel/Danny is a classic name while Melissa was common for girls of her generation while Theodore is old fashioned. I figured he was named after a relative or with the family being Catholic named after the saint whose feast day falls on his birthday. When I researched St. Theodore is one of the saints.
T.R. did say in an interview that his brother and sister had more "normal" names.
Now that you mention the background on their names, it does seem to be more fitting if you look back on the history of the name. You wouldn't happen to be able to PM me more information about St. Theodore, would you?

Yes, I'm that obsessed.

Thanks for posting T.R.'s horoscope. It speaks so much truth about him That's something so admireable about T.R. - he's got that hard-working, go-getter attitude.

Also, thanks for posting the news. It's funny, because I recieved an email this morning from BroadwayWorld and that was headlining the thing, so I got excited and hurried over here to post it and it turns out that you beat me to it Good for him! He's making us so proud. I wonder if Shonda will bother to come see him...

Those photos of him are great; he looks so handsome He looks so sad in the one from your other post. He looks like he needs a hug So cute.

Cindy, I'm happy you're back! I've missed seeing your posts around here. Glad you had a fun weekend with the kids. Sorry to hear about the weather keeping you guys cooped in doors - maybe the weather will be better this week?

Aw, your husband's jealousy is funny.

I don't mean to butt in, but I just wanted to say to Gwen, Cindy and Marie (and anyone else for that matter) that regardless if you're the one that faced discrimination or a loved one has, or may one day face it, that I really believe that people should stop being so closed minded. I have never experienced discrimination before, but I live in a very prejudice village and I know people that are that way, and it flat out disgusts me.

Yes, I did notice that. Thinking about how upset T.R. was and how he had been hurt by this just angers me. That's so great. Yeah, maybe someday T.R. will head to Chicago and do Goodman or Steppenwolf. But NYC is probably more doable than LA b/c I don't drive. Thanks for the news. I really like the cast they have there.

Lee, thanks for all the pics.

And I the new title suggestion.

First it's nice to see Cindy and Lee back. Sorry about Cindy's bad weather and Lee having to endure more assignments. Cindy, your husband's jealousy is too funny. You're not alone. My exes were a bit envious too.

Working in Vegas inevitably one works with the CSI production. When TR came out a number of the crew and William "Billy" Petersen reminsiced about wokring with him. They said he was very professional and prepared. The original script called for a more Q&A type interaction between him and Gary Dourdan but he embodied his character so well and could do a scene in one take the exchange was turned into more of a monologue. Billy was equally impressed and although they didn't have scenes together they chatted in between takes. They bonded on their shared Midwestern values. Ever since I always imagined them doing a play in Chicago together.

One of the most admirable qualities of the Chicago stage is its variety of storytelling and its dedication to more regular working types. The actors who emerge aren't your typical leading men or ladies but have they left an indelible mark on the craft. The NYC stage in recent years has succumb to broader entertainment with less O'Neill, Chekhov, Stoppard and more movie adaptations. TR would find a kindred spirit in the Windy City.

In the famous Ellen interview he said his father started calling him by his initials since he could remember. Sometimes parents do that when they're not the fondest of the first name. This makes me wonder if there's a specific reason he was named Theodore.

Giving a child a loving home by far outweighs cultural/ racial concerns. There are ways to honor his heritage and keep him connected. For example you can adopt customs and food. I'm sure there are Korean festival and events in nearby cities you can attend as a family.

Racism is a sad fact of life and is heartbreaking. Despite my pessimistic nature I refuse to say there's been no progress and I'm confident some of the issues that plagued me will not be his. When I came of age at the time of rigid attitudes towards race and assimilitation. It was expected I had to discard all "non-American" habits while simultaneously being rejected just on my appearance alone. It was common for Asian customs, features, dress, religion, and languages to be ridiculed because the standard of success had a definite Aryan nature. Nowadays these notions are more flexible. Just as an example all those girls who tormented me underwent plastic surgery to obtain the physical attributes I have. However, imperfect multiculturalism is it's too pervasive to return to the dark days of complete Northern Europena worship.

I'm still negotiating going to LA and trying to provide the care my parents need.

Thankfully I've heard from people TR is technologically inept and prefers live interaction so I don't think he sits on the computer frequently reading the negativity. Nonetheless some of those are disturbing and no decent person should say those things.

I agree about the nose. That's called a Roman nose and many Causcasian ethnicities have it. As for the hair on photobucket I saw a pic, which unfortunately forgot to save, of TR at a drugstore and his hair frizzed. The texture looked like mine. Many Americans have Native American ancestry in the distant past and latent traits can appear.

In my variety of jobs over the years I worked in the New Age shops along Santa Monica-Venice. From my training TR's rising sign is probably Pisces and his sun sign-the one you're born under-is Aries. Those with that combination undergo reinvention in life and career. The symbolism is Pisces is the last in the zodiac whereas Aries is the first. Trust me it's better he has his signs in this order than the opposite.

As was discussed further back, some aspects of George remind me of Derek (I think someone said George was a bit like a young Derek) and TR of PD, in some physical traits. I never noticed the coarseness of his hair... although, I must say, I am really enjoying the recent pics of him with his natural color.
b-t-w-- is it just me, or does he seem happier/his expression so relaxed in recent pictures? I bet he feels like a huge weight has been lifted off, with finally having his decision to leave GA made and executed.

I meant to comment on this earlier... I loved the background info on St. Theodore that you gave, Gwen... the way St. Theodore's story converges with TR's life and experiences during his time at Greys and the IW controversy and his response to it and the network's refusal to back him/eagerness to turn attention away from the issue at hand... wow. Powerful stuff. It would be interesting to hear how he came to have his name chosen

Pia-- do you think you'd go see him in NY? I think you should... you had said that you were interested in getting back into acting... he will inspire you! Besides, then I would know I'm not the only fangirl there!!
Seriously... I don't even know if I would be able to approach him, even if I had the chance... I'd be too nervous!

That was awesome, Lee. I haven't experience anything myself, except in terms of being a multiracial family and most, I guess, is more curiosity, than true discrimination. But I do wonder about my son when he gets older... we live in NH, which is not too culturally diverse.

Yes, I did notice that. Thinking about how upset T.R. was and how he had been hurt by this just angers me. And then to go on the internet and read comments people have made in the past about him continues to had fuel to the fire - this world can be so sickening with peoples' hate. They sometimes just cannot accept those that are different from them.
His interview on Ellen really shook me to my core. The stammering was so heartbreaking... it must have took tremendous courage to show his true feelings about that, to open up that vulnerable window. But I also think he knew that he'd be making a powerful statement through his sacrifice/his exposure.

Cindy, your husband's jealousy is too funny. You're not alone. My exes were a bit envious too.
Ah, that's good-- I don't have to feel alone here Most days he communicates it w/ humor... but now and then his patience is low about it and he'll make me feel like the crazy fangirl that I am !! Safety in numbers...

Giving a child a loving home by far outweighs cultural/ racial concerns. There are ways to honor his heritage and keep him connected. For example you can adopt customs and food. I'm sure there are Korean festival and events in nearby cities you can attend as a family.
I agree 100% with that-- I know. He does have some connections too... my husband's oldest brother's wife is So. Korean (she was born here, but both of her parents were born in So. Korea) and their children have mostly Korean features. Interestingly, he is very drawn to them... they are special to him (and also his Godparents, which makes them even more special). We have tried a bit of cooking Korean dishes... a family favorite is bee-bim bop. I do think, though, that what people say will, at times, bother him, but I also know that it's unavoidable.

Despite my pessimistic nature I refuse to say there's been no progress and I'm confident some of the issues that plagued me will not be his.
I think you are right here... I think things have gotten better and will continue to do so, especially as the melting pot continues to meld even more... the divisive lines that people hold in their minds are fading. Still, as a parent, I have to prepare him (w/o overemphasizing it, of course) to potentially encounter racism and to know that the things people say about him based on his ethnicity alone are not any fault on his part, but a major fault on theirs. Tying back to TR and the discrimination that he has encountered coming from IW... I do not understand how someone who claims to have been discriminated against based on a facet that he can not control could turn around and do it to someone else? Projection is probably the nastiest of all defense mechanisms. On the surface, it seems to be the least self-destructive, but in IW's case, the self-destruction was a definitive by-product.

To end on a lighter note, Lee... those photos were great! Thank you!
I don't often think he looks like George (that probably sounds nuts, but TR has his own personal expressions and gestures... if that makes any sense) but in #5 & #6 he looks like George, I think. His eyes do look so green...
And I loved the cast photo at the end... still seems unbelievable to me that he's done w/ GA... in some ways.
I will miss George tremendously, but I am gleefully happy for our TR.

Cindy, I'm confused and I hope I'm not being too personal here. You said your last child was South Korean. Is he adopted?

The squinty eye comments are disgusting. For some reason when I was younger, I had sort of almond-shaped eyes and the other kids would ask me if I was Chinese and do the squinty eye thing. So stupid! I think people are just jealous and scared of anything that's different.

I happen to think almond-shaped eyes are gorgeous. I lost them unfortunately.

What would George do? Ha ha, I love it. I'll take that to heart. You're right. Life is too short to be scared. What happened to George in the finale shows that.

I have always been afraid of failure. I wish i was more like George. He failed so many times, but he never gave up.

Cindy, your husband is so cute with the jealousy. I laughed so hard when I read his names for him.

My boyfriend always rolls his eyes when I talk about TR.

I think I drive him and my family nuts by talking about him all the time.

Pia, would you have the TV Guide article on George?

What do they say exactly?

Thanks for the New York info.

It'll be so much easier to go there.

Oh and I love the title.
